Uhm yeah, that sure was an insult I put out there   ::)

The question was, is anyone else having this problem.  I answered, no...I'm not having that problem.  Watching it just fine.  Where was the insult?

Come to think of it, I'm watching a channel eminating from Chicago, transfered to a broadcast center, sent into space 22,300 miles in the Clarke belt, returning 22,300 miles to my home or office in California...all in about 3.4 seconds....I'm trying to guess if I could do this say 15 years ago....nope.  Technology is cool isn't?  Even for us insulters 2000 miles away from campus, we can still follow along like everyone else.

spiral97

Not as cool as being able to access MUScoop in milliseconds despite probably around 4-5 hops at minimum.. you COULD read about the shumpert commitment about 3 seconds before you see it on tv  8)
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.

muhoops1

I believe it dropped the signal simply because the show wasn't available in markets outside of Chicago.

No, you're right, the tone of your post and the eye rolling emoticon were not intended to be slights.  At all.  We get it, Direct TV is the greatest thing in the world..when it is not down when it is too foggy, rainy, windy, snowy, or sunny.

MU Hoops, Actually it was available to anyone in the country that subscribed to that service.

If the service was so bad and didn't work in those conditions (fog...sun...I have to admit I laughed at that one), I guess I would wonder why they are growing each year and cable continues to LOSE customers each year.  Strange.  I know when I had cable, it NEVER went out ever.   ::)  It was so reliable and the customer service was about the best thing on the planet.

But hey, not big deal...it's not for everyone nor should it be.  Nor are Fords or Toyotas or Chevys or whatever....each to his own.

Have a pleasant day.

Chicos -- if you can get DirecTV to work with TiVo again (or just have them use the cableCARD protocol and let me use my S3) -- DirecTV would have me back in a second. I try not to like any mega corps too much, but other than dumping TiVo, D* was always good to me. Then again, TimeWarner hasn't been bad -- but I'd sure like more than 5 HD channels.

I have Dish Network. 13 months into my 18 month contract. 5 more months and I am going back to Charter. I can't wait.  Charter will cost me more, but I will be glad to pay it now.

We have 72 HD channels now and will have about 98 in another 6 weeks.  It's been crazy.

I have three TiVos in my house and they all work just fine with DIRECTV.  Are you talking about standalone units or integrated units?

I don't blame you....I wouldn't subscribe to them if they paid me.   ;)  They (Dish Network) are the low cost leader but you get what you pay for.

Chicos,

I currently have DirecTV/Tivo - regular definition.  Is the DVR supplied with HighDef Tivo as well?

Cheers.
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

I want an HD TiVo that'll get all of the new HD channels. My understanding is that the curent HD TiVo will only decode the MPEG2 channels, but all new HD programming will be in MPEG4. I've played with the DirecTV HD-DVR and really don't like it. I also need CBS as an HD local (too close to Mitchel Airport to get it over the air).

Other than those two (smallish) things, I'd be with DirecTV still.

Tivo will not be providing a MPEG4 box to us.

The CBS station in Milwaukee will not cut a deal....I believe we have deals with something like 185 CBS stations with only 2 no deals....both owned by the same company that owns the one in Milwaukee.  I'll leave it to you to decide who is being impractical...the 185 or the 2

They're already out.  Most of the new 72 HD channels we launched are in MPEG4.

I'm not surprised its the content-makers being trouble. Im actually surprised it isn't more of them :)

I know that DirecTV decided to forgo the TiVo in favor of their own DVR solution (whether it was financial or control, I don't know)...but I've used the DirecTV HDDVR and I do not like the interface. I wish DirecTV would work with the CableCARD spec and allow me to use my Series3 Tivo on their system. That'd be the best of all worlds...

To be fair - the whole CableCard thing is a complete joke put on by CableLabs.  I have similar feelings on wanting to use it - except I use Windows Media Center (Which does everything Tivo does, but much much MUCH faster - I can't believe how slow it is to navigate the TV guide on a tivo...)

I figured when I finally got HD, I'd just buy a CableCard TV Tuner, and all would work wonderfully.  Of course that was crazy thinking -- for anything to be sold that uses a CableCard - the whole system had to be verified to work with it.  So you can't just by a CableCard tv tuner, you have to buy a whole new ~$1500 media center that includes one.  None are available after market.  That's complete crap...

Why all the TV providers insist on making it difficult to use your own PVR system is rediculous.

spiral97

I have a Tivo HD.  I have two cablecards in it.  I have had ZERO issues with it.  On my old Tivo, the tv guide is indeed annoyingly slow to scroll through.  On this one, though, I have no complaints.

Of course, YMMV ;)

I've used your series 3, and it was still way slower than media center.

But yes - it does support cable card  ;D

It's not a series 3. :P

As for the speed, like I said, I have no complaints.  When I am paging rapidly it keeps up with me.  Anything much faster is almost pointless since you can't read it anyhow.
