How many 3's?
« on: December 21, 2013, 11:29:19 PM »
How many times does the coach's kid have to kill us before we dedicate a defender to him and stop using his man to double-down?

One? Three? Five?

Anybody can look at my history posting to know I'm a Buzz fan, but he dropped the ball tonight. We let a mediocre player torch us tonight, and unnecessarily so.

Cullen Neal looked like a First Round Draft pick tonite.
Even though hes a sub par player

We doubled the post like UNM had Wilt chamberlain playing for them.

Cullen Neal was a top 100 player coming out of HS...not saying he's Marcus Smart but he definitely better than sub par

Cameron Bairstow is their best player, not Wilt Chamberlien but I definitely think he was the top defensive priority

The kid torched us tonight. But only two of his threes came from a kickout after his man left to double team. The other four he had a hand in his face and one was from Jimmer range

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

His High school team lost to Dawson and Clovis in the state playoffs last year and he was ranked #1 in state of New Mexico and Who was ranked #2 our own Dawson.. So if were basing college par and sub parity off High School Our guy should be getting more than DNPs...
Just my opinion.

This comment is right on. How many times does the coach's kid have to kill us before we dedicate a defender to him and stop using his man to double-down?

One a guy hits one or two the d on him should increase.  Once he is hot someone like Burton or DW should never leave him.  I mean never.  It just seems like we don't have respect for when a player is getting hot against us.  Buzz tells DW to just smother the kid and I bet he gets frustrated and cools down.  That seems to be against the philosophy of the d system we play though.

So wait...Neal is a sub-par player in this thread, yet in another his position as #1 in New Mexico is why John Dawson should be playing more? So you want the guy who is worse than a sub-par player to get more minutes? You're not making any sense.

Let's face it Sportsfans--this team was vastly overrated pre-season by the polls and By the Kool Aid slurpers on this board. This is the most underachieving team seen at MU in years. Guards that are at best average, although Jake had a pretty good game last night; more experience on this team than many in the country, starting a 6th yr and two 5th yr. players.; an inability to get the ball inside; and coaching decisions that many question. Will we get a quality win this year?

I see that Du. Wilson was again a DNP--yet he is medically cleared who the coach says is still hurting--wonder what is up with that--nobody seems to know or will explain that situation.

Oh well, on to the next cupcake where everything will again come up roses..

Wow, had to be tough for Dawson to watch Neal go off as he recorded a solid DNP-Coach's Decision.

All the Dawson-Neal stuff really has nothing to do with the point of this thread.

One-dimensional 3-point shooters are the easiest players to stop. If you don't want a Novak or a Rashard Lewis or a J.J. Redick to score, you simply can stop them from scoring. We had that option with the coach's kid and we chose not to do it to very poor results.

Contrast that to how New Mexico started covering Jake after he hit a few 3's. They smothered him on the one he took from the baseline that hit the top of the backboard -- a comically bad shot. They were determined not to get beaten by a one-dimensional perimeter player, and they succeeded.

Of course, Jake helped them out some by missing the front end of a 1-and-1, but that's another subject!
