Weekend of games worked out pretty well for Big East & Marquette (sans Badger game obviously):

- St. John's, Butler, G'Town, and Xavier take care of business
- Nova destroys city rival St. Joe's on the road
- New Mexico beats Cincy solidly (good for RPI)
- George Washington knocks off Maryland (GW's only loss is to Marquette)
- San Diego State beats UDub
- Creighton easily takes care of state rival Nebraska
- Seton Hall knocks off state rival Rutgers on the road

And not a peep from our most prodigious poster on any of this. I would say it makes you wonder, but not really.

has it gotten to the point now where we just cheer for the league to do well because marquette can't win games?

Beat New Mexico and the non conference won't be a complete disaster. That will be their 6th game vs. top 55 in the RPI, if you come out 2-4 that's not terrible. Considering 5 of them were on the road or neutral.

Problem is, we have an excellent chance of losing at New Mexico, a 7-1 team that defeated UAB, which defeated Kentucky,

Based on Kenpom, Marquette will be 2 point dogs. Typically Vegas and Ken are within a point. I'd say they have a good chance of winning as well. Need to make shots, defense is solid.

What is our SOS ranked right now? Have to assume it is top 20ish....

Isn't that kind of the point of a good win.  That you have a chance of losing but still manage to pull out a win.

Not that it really matters (the A beat B beat C argument) but UAB defeated North Carolina, not Kentucky.

Lenny, he already posted what did you want me to do, repost the same thing?  Good Lord

If anything, it begs the question on why so many people here think we are going to go 14-4 or 15-3.

What happened to all of this stuff going to the super bar........

I believe the game is in Vegas so it is neutral. To slight home advantage. I'm sure it will not be as bad as SDSU in Anaheim in terms of fanbase.

I suspect it will be a pretty decent home court advantage for NMU, as NMU fans will probably FAR outnumber MU fans.  But you're right that it probably won't be as unbalanced as the SDSU game, mainly because there will also be lots of Colorado and OK State fans there as well.  And we may actually get some of them cheering for us, as we'll be underdogs....

As for SOS - our nonconference SOS is stronger than in years past, but it has to be.  Even with some good wins over the weekend, there is no way the SOS surges in the BE season like it has in the past.

In the tournament or early year challenges, not during the regular season. Just me.

FIFY.  Against UAB, UNM had to hit desperation 3s at the end of both regulation and 1OT to tie the game, and had played from behind most of that game--wasn't exactly a resounding win.  I do think that UAB is a decent team this year, but then UNM got blown out by a good UMass team.  Otherwise, UNM's schedule looks fairly pedestrian--a home win over Cinci being the only other impressive result.

All to say--UNM is a good team, and would be a good win for us emotionally, but they haven't exactly run the gantlet to get to 7-1.  I think this is definitely winnable--just hope we finally put it all together.

The conference remains #3 in the RPI

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology/conference

http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_conf_Men.html

Compared to #1 or #2 each of the past four seasons, giving us a smaller margin for error.  Thanks for providing the numbers.

Edit:  I just realized that the link you provided to Realtime RPI currently has the BE at #4, behind the Big 12, Big 10 and Pac 12.  Even less margin for error compared to previous seasons....
