Scouting Report: Badgers look stellar in early going

Marquette's non-Bradley Center tour continues tomorrow afternoon when Buzz Williams' group squares off against the eighth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center. The Golden Eagles have had recent successes against their rival to the West, picking up wins in the last two annual matchups. The Badgers opened as nine-point favorites, and rightfully so; Bo Ryan's [...]<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=painttouches.com&blog=28348875&post=9893&subd=painttouches&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />

You guys love Jake, that is for sure.  But, Mayo needs to start and be allowed to make plays for MU to win tomorrow.  I don't think Buzz will start Todd, but I do think MU will win with him. I too love Jake for his hustle, but how he is the #1 key to the game is a head scratcher?

Glad Gasser is back and near healthy. But, the UW team's strengths are two, three stars from Chicago's burbs that I have seen grow up.  They are very beatable and a 9.5 spread is a great bet. UW is an unbalanced and imperfect team.  MU is behind in development..and as I have said before, that is on Buzz and the choices he has made about practice and playing time.   Tomorrow, though, the rubber meets the road.

MU wins going away.

I agree that getting someone going from the outside would be a big benefit, but I don't think it has to be Jake. That said, I don't think that should be the number one key to the game. We can get points in the paint against UW. They won't come easy, but I don't think we need to light it up from behind the 3 point line to win.

You can't overstate the significance of UW's pace of play and efficiency. If we turn the ball over a lot or give them second chances by giving up offensive boards, we're cooked. If we protect the ball and own the boards, I think we get a big win.

Hate to be pessimistic but we're due for a badger loss and unfortunately this seems like the year.  They're playing really well and we are still struggling.  I think keys to the game is not getting in early foul trouble (mainly Jamil) and an energetic, aggressive Davante.  It would be nice if Jake shoots well so we have some threats on the inside and out.

Everyone must play well and execute to come away with a W here I think.  If there's one game for Steve to redeem himself for poor play early, it's this one.

The key to beating UW is taking it to the basket and getting them in foul trouble, which will be hard to do. We will not beat them by settling for jump shots.

Game theory or heart pick?

Analytics and informed intuition are different than your wild-ass theories on luck that you apply whether or not you like the coach--and that you can only support by deflecting, going contrarian or posting more loudly, but one you cannot defend.

On the other hand, if Buzz plays by Win Value, his match-up advantage, and MU prevents the threes, Bucky will struggle if MU can press the advantage early. Bo is doing a great job with his team with the early start to their season, while Buzz is struggling with his designed late start to find this team's mojo.  Do I think UW will win? Yes because they have a set line up and are home.  Do I think MU is better? Yes, they have a clear match-up advantage they can exploit and are more athletic talent.  Thus, my pick.

When we discussed this game a month or two ago, I asked for your informed answer as to why you picked UW, and all I got was a virtual shoulder shrug. This board would be lucky and better off if you informed more with your analysis, rather than jump from thread to thread blabbing about your unsupported theories on luck in post after post, thread after thread.  Please inform us about your Lucky Bucky pick?
