I'm not sure if this has been posted, but it's a quick video the forgotten recruit.

Doesn't show much just a few 3's from him, but this summer has been slow.

Real nice form on the jumper.

MU82

He does have nice form. Also lots of "flair" and confidence. Here's hoping he brings it all with him to MU.

There is ALWAYS room for a guy who can hit the 3. Had Jake Thomas actually made 3s, he wouldn't have become anchored to the bench last year.

We also might've looked like we belonged in the Elite 8

Zap.

Not to mention, Jake Thomas being on the court and a 3 point "threat" opened up the lane for Vander to finish off the comeback against Davidson in the first round.  Talked to Homer at a bar that night after the game and we asked what his call was for that play.  He said "THEY LET HIM GET A LAYUP!  WHY ARE THEY STAYING ON JAKE THOMAS IN THE CORNER WHILE VANDER IS GETTING A LAYUP?!"

I was watching that replay the other day and thinking again how well JT filled his role the last minute.   Davidson's scouting report was apparently to not leave him alone.   Somebody was always faceguarding JT while JWilson and Blue won the game.

Dawson could surprise.  I hope he becomes another MU great.

Interesting.

All I know is that if I am Davidson's coach - and we're often confused for one another - I'm defending Marquette's best player and taking my chances on the scrub coming in cold off the bench.

Agreed.  Having been at the game live, all I remember was thinking "WHY IS JAKE THOMAS ON THE FLOOR?!" as they broke the huddle, and then I don't even remember Jake Thomas being on the floor from that point on.  Luckily for us, his defender did.

Love his touch from deep. Also looks like he has a good sense of balance and handles (which should get tighter).

Dawson could be could be good. Could transfer in a year or two. All I know is I will love him while hes here, and for a good couple years after, if hes not mean about my school.

Transfer before he even gets here, why not for a change think positive, and he will be here 4 years.

If I was Davidison's coach I would of believed my bigman was not going to allow Vander to get a step on him. The coach did not fail as much as the center allowed Vander to beat him. I think no one was surprised that Vander took the last shot, but should they expected him to take it right to the shot blocker. The play was similar to the one against St. John's, except (I could be wrong on this) Vander went to right side against St. John's and to the left side against Davidison. Maybe that is how Vander got the step. The center expected him to go right and Vander went left. It was a great play by Vander.

Those two plays really signified how far Vander's game came last off-season.  He could always beat his own man off the dribble, but then either got swatted or threw a line drive brick off the glass.  This year he was able to avoid the shot block much better after he beat the inital line of defense, then was also able to use a lot more touch off the glass.  He clearly put in a ton of work on that over the summer (along with the midrange J), and it paid off for him and MU big time.

A little man with skills almost always has an advantage over a slower tall guy in these situations. As was discussed after the game, the coaching failure really was in playing man and letting Cohen get caught in a switch. Had Davidson played a tight zone, it would have been impossible for Vander to get loose inside and he would have had to settle for a difficult, on-the-move jumper. Of course, had Davidson played zone, Jake probably would have been open and, based on his season stats, would have had a whopping 27.8% chance of burning the defense.

Earlier in the year I posted that sometimes it is just destiny whether you win or lose a game. Of course some of you (if not all) thought I was crazy. However, if you buy my theory Thomas would of made the shot. Davidson was destined to lose that game.
