Dominique Rutledge keeps MU in the mix

Dominique Rutledge, a 6'8" 230 pound forward from New Jersey, narrowed his list to just four schools over the weekend -- Marquette, St. Joseph's, Pittsburgh and Auburn.  He'll visit MU this week.

According to his coach he has a 40+ vert - at 6'8'' and 230, thats borderline unbelievable.

He sounds fantastic.  Where is he ranked by some of the major scouting services?  Looks like he is unranked by Scout.

Could be.  Or he could be a kid who didnt play much AAU ball and is at a program that's not top of mind with alot of coaches.

Scout.com does have him at 1 star and is unlited by Van Coleman.  I suspect he has outstanding physical attributes, but perhaps not that skilled at this point. Being from New Jersey with those attributes, its hard to see how he would "fly under the radar" and could well be a project kind of player?  Interesting, but one can't stuff a roster with that kind of player (if thats what he is).  But, thats for TC and his staff to determine.  Don't think many of us here are really in any kind of position to evaluate him.

Dominique is a very skilled combo forward. The lefty can put the ball on the floor and attack off the dribble. He had a beautiful crossover move and finish in transition on one occasion. He also knocked down a couple of jumpers. He can play with his back to the basket in the low post as well. Dominique is pretty efficient in down low. He battled on the boards throughout. He may not be dominant in one area, but his all around ability creates a lot of match-up problems for the opposition.

Dominique Rutledge, Team New Jersey Elite Orange. Junior, Edison Academy (NJ) 6'7", 215lbs.
Strengths: Hyper-athletic. As Elite's coach, Galen Smith said, "He's a freak. He can play everything from two (shooting guard) to five (center)". Finishes hard on breaks.
Weaknesses: Improve ball handling and face up moves, which he has, through extensive drilling.
School list: Rutgers, St. Joes, University of Houston, VCU, Farleigh Dickenson (offered), Penn State (offered).
Rutledge shared he plans to choose a school "at the end of next year", and is seeking a program that has "a structured environment".
