My choice as the best sports movie ever. Siskel and Ebert said it should have won the Oscar that year. Siskel was outraged that it wasn't even nominated in the doc category.

I've never seen a documentary with as many plot twists. And the way that the two main characters ended up -- the first shall be last and vice versa -- was amazing.

My all-time sports flick list includes most of the standards -- Raging Bull, Slap Shot, etc. -- but Hoop Dreams is so unique and powerful. Hard to believe it's been 20 years!

Agreed!  It's a very long film that keeps me fixated the entire time too.
