I noticed that the NCAA has approved whole team basketball practice/midnight madness to begin 2 weeks sooner. Will this have any effect on boot camp, Steve Taylor, or the basketball team in general; or does it just mean that the team should be better prepared for the start of the season?

bilsu

It should mean every team is better for next season.

Will we see an increase in injury rates as a result?

Perhaps a decrease depending on how coaches approach the extra two weeks. Transition slower, more prevention etc.

Probably fewer.  Still get the same total hours of practice,  just able to spread out over 6 weeks rather than 4 weeks.  Get days off.

It makes you anxious to hear about the summer play?  When does the summer league start?

It's not 2 weeks sooner. Most of the media has got the specifics wrong. This article has the "real" information.

In 2013, it effectively adds *3* weeks of preseason practice for teams that play their regular season opener on the first day allowable. (max is 20 hours per week.. max is generally 6 days of countable activities per week, but for the men's bball preseason practices it's only 5 days).

Read the linked article for a description of what is really going on. The majority of the media is incorrect in their explanations (and the NCAA.org release was incorrect as well).

Having a deeper bench will help MU.
But staying healthy and fit is still paramount.

I wonder if the NCAA will allow boot camp to be two weeks early or if Buzz wants to push it up as a result of this announcement.

I don't think there was anything in the NCAA bylaws that would have kept boot camp from occurring earlier - it was just a choice made by MU. That said, pushing it up shouldn't be an issue.

No, that is absolutely inaccurate. Not the same total hours, not 6 weeks rather than 4, 2 days off per week ON AVERAGE required with new rules, 1 day off mandatory under both old and new.
