Cause of the increased prices!
« on: September 19, 2007, 07:24:30 PM »
Ok, The cause of the increased prices comes from the Bradley Center. All tickets for EVERY EVENT that goes on there now has an extra 1$ surcharge to it. 20 homes games or so.. and extra 20$ per season. Still 70$ should be NOTHING to complain about. We are one of the cheaper schools (and it's not like MU students are scraping the bottom of the barrel for cash). Ponying up 70$ to get to see the best teams in college basketball is a small price to pay...
And 100$ two years from now? It's still reasonable... 5$ a game? (And you don't even have to put down a seat donation!)

If I remember correctly (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), student season tickets back between 93-97 were around $35-45.

I DO remember that my buddy at UCLA had to camp out for a lottery just to get tickets AND he had to pay over $100 back then!

MU's season ticket prices make me wish I HADN'T graduated!!! LOL!!!

How many students go out to the bars every weekend and drink $5 beers?  That's one MU game per beer.  Would you trade an MU vs. UL game for one beer?  Now, I like beer, but not THAT much.  Or how about going to a restaurant.  That's easily $30 for you and your date even if you dine like a cheapo college student.  So you can take your girly friend out for a few dinners or take her to twenty MU games.  And if she doesn't want to go to twenty MU games, you shouldn't be dating her anyways . . . some things in a relationship just need to be established right off the bat.  Point is, MU student tickets are a screaming steal of a deal!  Take advantage of it now, because later in life you'll laugh as you take a stack of bills out of your wallet and throw them like confetti at all of life's expenses.

I am not making any comment on the MU student ticket prices as I think they are reasonable, but Pauley Pavillion is like a high school gym compared to the Bradley Center.

We used to have to camp out to get student tickets.  September of 1976, the area between Lalumiere and the old Brooks Memorial union was a sea of ratty tents and sleeping bags (and pretty decent parties--remember the drinking age was 18 then, so it wasn't even an issue).

I think it would be cool if MU would do some sort of lottery/GA/camp out combo. (some games would be GA, some could be assigned or something)

I'm not really sure how the plan would work, but maybe when the schedule comes out in the fall the kids could camp out/wait in line for tickets for like the 4 biggest games or something.

I love the students dedication to stand outside at 5am in February, but it might be better/safer to have them do it on a September afternoon rather than at dawn in Feb.

For those of us who did the camp-out thing regularly, it was partof the whole experience. We used to love getting there at the crack of dawn, spending the day in line, getting some touch football of whiffle ball games going outside the BC, the atmosphere was great, and when we got the premium sec. 106 seats for doing it, it made us feel like we really earned those seats.

Granted, a year and some change out of school, with my cushy assigned season ticket, I look at myself as crazy for doing it sometimes, but I wouldn't trade those memories for the world.

I agree with you, and I love the dedication and attitude.

I'm just saying it might be cool if you could camp out in September for some of the big games rather then Feb. Might be better to camp out on the lawn of the union rather then the sidewalk.

ahh well... maybe if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

If they do a September camp out, that means I get to be one of those curmudgeons who can say "Back in my day, WE used to wait out in the below-zero cold!"  ;)

There probably would be a cool factor to the September thing, especially if there were tents and such. Plus, it would spare the high-risk mad dash to the seats there always was when the gates finally opened. The media would probably cover it, and without a doubt, Crean would have the players doling out snacks to the students, like he did for us in line. Nothing helped ease the cold than hot chocolate and donuts served by Ousmane Barro himself.

HAHAHA... I can't even imagine Ous handing out donuts... that is hilarious. With his reach I be he could hand them to people all the way in the middle of the crowd. Maybe even some sort of reverse up and under donut hand off.

Like I said, I love that the students are willing to brave the cold (I did it too my junior and senior year when the crowds grew), but I think doing some sort of September thing might be cool too. It would be fun to camp out on the grass for a couple of days in the fall. Maybe even make it part of "fall fest" or whatever it is. MU doesn't have homecoming, so maybe the ticket camp out could become the big event of the fall.

The current system isn't flawed, but maybe it could be improved and tied in with some other stuff.

AND yes, you would get alumni saying something like "back in my day... blah blah blah". It's the nature of the beast. Whether its the nickname, the avalanche, brooks hall, etc. etc. alumni are always going to have a tendency to compare today's MU vs when they went to MU.

Anyone who complains about these prices is OUT OF THEIR MIND! It may be an increase, but it's the first one in 10 years and for a great product in a great facility. I don't want to hear any student complain about these prices.

When I was a freshman at MU 76-77, the campout was first come first served.  The next year they did a lottery to decide your place in line and then you had to camp out for your tickets.  That was really lame.  I like the way it is now, those who really want to be up close have to put in the effort.  You get great fans down low and a great student section atmosphere.
