Buzz's Comments

I was thinking about Buzz's comments in the Post game.  It was clear that he was very frustrated with the lack of respect the national media was giving this team for winning a share of the title.  He also seemed to link it back to a lack of respect overall.  At first it would seem that this would be further evidence to Buzz that he will eventually need to move to a higher profile job.  But then I thought that maybe it ends up doing the opposite.  Buzz seems to relish being the underdog, the Junior College guy, the guy nobody thought was good enough and proving them all wrong.  He wants the harder path to success.  Winning a National Title at MU is going to be much tougher than it would be at Texas or Indiana because you won't get the media respect along the way, you'll have to prove it.  But maybe thats the reason that Buzz will chose to stay.  Thoughts?

Well things have changed a bit since Wild left.  We'll find out if buzz likes those changes/new people or not, more so than any national pub.

  Maybe he likes the underdog, maybe not. He's good at using that role though.  Ultimately he needs to feel like he has the support/control over his program to take it to the next level.

Man, I thought the exact same thing when watching yesterday.  I was actually going to write the bold part in teal on this post until I read the whole thing.  I don't think Buzz cares so much about the national spotlight for himself, but rather the 13 kids and their families as he said.  It's bulletin board material for sure, and hopefully it can be used for motivation for a huge run in the BE tourney.   

Two ways to look at it.  He gladly accepts the role of underdog and welcomes the challenge of putting MU into the elite class along with Duke, UNC, Kansas, et al., and he stays.  Or, you could argue he is a realist (some may say quitter) and says MU is never going to be elite because of lack of history, lack of exposure, lack of freedom with team/program, etc., and he leaves.

You guys are trying to read way too much into this.

Buzz, like most coaches, loves to play the "We don't get no respect" and "Us against the World" cards to motivate his team.

Bottom line is Buzz's brain is not wired like most people.  He marches to a different drummer and the biggest triggers seems to be relationships and respect.

At the end of the day if Buzz hated MU as much as it is rumored he'd be gone.  Salary, perks whatever aside be would just leave.  So when he does leave he will have his reasons.  And he will have left the Program much stronger.  Hopefully, we can get a good coach to follow in his foot steps. 

At this point I've heard so much conjecture I've lost interest.
