That is pretty much standard procedures. If the game is on one of their national networks they are not going to let you see it online, they want you to watch the actual channel.

It's their standard procedure now, and I understand why, but it wasn't in the past.  They've really started cracking down this year with log-ins and blacking out more games than in previous years.  The hassle-factor for ESPN3 is increasing, so I don't see it as a big advantage for being on ESPN vs. FOX anymore.

IF the game is on national tv, but your internet company is a subscriber to Watch Espn then you are able to use the watch espn app to view the game on Espn, Espn2 or EspnU.  If your internet company isn't then you are out of luck. 
Marquette should be one of the premier teams in the NEW Big East, therefore hopefully most of our conference games will be broadcast nation wide on foxsports1 or 2.

WatchESPN is only available to cable subscribers, and then, only if your subscription includes the channel (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) you want to watch.  ESPN3.com is available to internet-only subscribers, but ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU cannot be watched live on ESPN3.

I hope fox comes up with something.  I live overseas and pay $25/month and so far have gotten all the games (except CBS and the GB game) through ESPN.  CBS was free and GB we all know about ($5 for that garbage).

4. Go to a nearby Sports Bar, drink some IPA and slip the bar tender a $20 to put the Marquette game on the Big Screen. It works. I've done it.

I've never had to bribe the bartender, just ask. Maybe find a different bar with less Badger fans?

With Fox Sports taking over will the games be on a major tv channel like the NFL games (channels 2-8)? Or will it be on the same channel as speed, which as I recall was in the 100's.

Since I don't work for Fox I can only surmise, but I believe it will be in the 100's or whereever most of your sport channels are located since it is being launched, I believe, as a cable sports channel to compete directly against ESPN. The really low numbers are usually for the channels that you can get over the air.

I don't have cable either, and ESPN3 has been sporadic this year.  Sometimes games were available, and sometimes they required a log-in from your cable company to watch games.  Besides the TWC32 black-outs, ESPN3 was blocking games on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU as well.

The nicest thing for me is the replay, which has no blackouts.  About 30% of games I can't catch live, and watchESPN has all of the games broadcast on replay for what seems like a long time.  So even if I can't watch it because of blackout or I'm doing something else, I just wait until 30 minutes (or a full day) after the game and know I can watch it then.  Plus I have iPad with AppleTV so it is as good as watching it on cable.

Is there a reason that colligate athletic conferences don't set up something similar to MLBTv or NHL Gamecenter? It wouldn't help (WI-based) Marquette fans watch MU games, but I would pay a price to be able to watch every other conference game on my computer.

I don't have cable either and don't have a problem going down to the bar to watch MU road games. I would be willing to pay $50-$80/season to watch every out of market Big East game though. As it is, I've been known to find 'alternative' streams of games. You'd think that some of my money would be better than none of my money...

NFL, MLB, BCS, Daytona/NASCAR...I guess I'd be surprised if they didn't try. That's like 10 years out though, isn't it?

The problem they have is most of the contracts for the big properties are signed right now for years, many by ESPN.  That's why the timing of all this on Fox's part I find interesting.

I would imagine there would be Saturday doubleheaders on the National , over-the-air FOX station. Everything else will get regulated to FOX1(SPEED), FOX2(FUEL TV) and the regional FSNs.

Fox isn't stupid. What do you think they have planned? Is possible that some of those contracts have out clauses...so Fox could end up stealing a few plums from ESPN?

The trainwreck that NBC Sports Network has been will be a good example of what not to do for Fox.
