They have hired Pilson Communications, which is essentially the services of a former CBS Sports Executive that negotiates television contracts.

Also hired Proskauer Rose, which apparently is a huge firm with one of their specialties being sports law.

Hmm.... Andy Katz referred to us as the Big East 7, not C7. Might sense will keep the Big East Brand.

Pilson is an interesting cat.  He was at CBS for many years and lost the NFC contract to FOX on his watch...as a result he was fired, fairly or unfairly since Fox came in with crazy dollars.  He started Pilson Communications and has been around for a long time.  He was pro Mike Aresco hiring for the Big East and thought if the schools stayed together that a big pay day was coming.  Oh well, things changed.

Head of Proskauer Rose is a Georgetown Alum. I know Georgetown Alum becomes lawyer. Shocker.  :D

In this case, is "interesting" good?

It's good if he can pull in the money for the conference.  He's done some big deals in the past, but this is a goofy industry so you never know.  I'd rather have them involved then some of the others, I will say that.  There have been other reps of late with some other major properties that make you want to take a shower after you deal with them.

At the end of the day, his team will only be able to sell whatever the product ultimately becomes.  The deal will validate how strong a conference is based on the product of those schools.

and retained Proskauer Rose LLP and Pilson Communications to aid in the move to a new league. The university presidents met Friday in NY to discuss the future of the new league, vowing to "honor the history and tradition on which the Big East was established."  There is no timetable for when other schools will join the league.  This, per the AP.

Chicos, I find it hard to believe that the $3 million media mumber is accurate. Do you think this is in any way a valid number from an actual network or consultant? Or is just Some reporters speculation or some athletic director speculation? If we can get close to 3 million, obviously that would be huge, but it just seems really high With no football given the low amounts that some football conferences such as the MWC get

At least now we know who will have the most input on who else will join the league; Neal Pilson Communications.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

It's speculation and probably a bit of negotiating in the press.  It's impossible, though, to even wager a good guess right now without knowing what teams, how many teams, and what rights the conference is selling.  Will it include non-conference games, for example.  Will it include digital rights (streaming, etc)?  The other part to this is who are the bidders?  You might be breaking up the deal into multiple rights holders which might yield more money, or it might yield less but more coverage (more games broadcast)...that tradeoff may be something the conference is willing to make.

Way too many moving parts right now and unknowns to hazard a guess.

Perhaps some answers here, and some "so far, so good" news...actually great news.  Fox emerging as a leading bidder, but NBC and ESPN not out yet.  And forget $3M; C7 schools may be looking closer to $5M or double their current payout.  Also interesting to note that they're not certain the C7 will share evenly with new invitees, but basically tell them "we did the work, you'll still get at least five times what you're getting now, and we might help with your exit fees."
