Starting next season, MU and UWM will be playing.  Read all about it on Rosiak's daywatch:

This story is getting old.  It's like UWM keeps bringing up the series so that it can get some sort of news coverage.  Does anybody at MU really care if we play this series?  Let's finish it and move on.  The last time this game held any interest for me was after Shannon Smith transfered from MU to UWM.

Yes, well, sorta.

I agree, the conversations about it seem to be neverending. To be honest, I hope whole deal is approved, and then we just play the games, and talk about them during game week.  I don't agree with the people that now want to "stick it to" UWM - that's ridiculous.  It could make a nice game on our December schedule for a few years to come, and the fans in Milwaukee will be happy.

With all that said.  I'll stop now - I was just posting the news (and since it was the only thing today...well...)

NYWarrior

leave it to Bud Haidet.  By signing the proposed deal yesterday, he demonstrated that it should have been signed weeks ago.  Instead, he embarrassed his employer and community.  Foolish

rocky_warrior

If agreed on, does this series have the potential to become hostile?  Actually...maybe...here's what Mike Woods has to say:

Quote
News: UW-Milwaukee changes its mind and decides to sign a five-year men's basketball deal to play Marquette starting in 2007-'08. The change of heart came after two anonymous UWM donors stepped up and promised to make up the $20,000 difference between Marquette's offer and what UWM was seeking. MU is expected to put its name to the deal in the next few days.

Views: So did this kind of remind you of the Marquette nickname fiasco of a couple years ago? But clumsiness aside, much like that situation, the right thing was done in the end. And with each school barely able to hold back its animosity for each other as the two publicly bickered over the particulars of this deal, it should make this series the most anticipated and best of all the in-state rivalries, for nothing beats honest to goodness loathing for each other.

Bump from .... FIVE YEARS AGO.

I can't believe we missed MUScoop's 5 year birthday on Oct 23rd.  This thread was topic #5, basically the first bit of Basketball news we were talking about.

In 5 years, Scoop is at 5,400+ users, 24,888 topics, 319,000 posts,  147 avg. posts per day (closer to 400+ per day during the season.)

Huge thanks to Rocky and Spiral for keeping the site up and footing the bill!

Happy Birthday Scoop!  While I may not be a favorite of some here, I do want to say thank you moderators for providing a great forum and site for the hardest core MU fans.  Much appreciated.

Happy Birthday MUScoop!  Thanks to the moderators for running a wonderful site.

In relation to the UWM thing, I think it's fine to renew the series.  UWM will be better than 95% of our buy games, in terms of the RPI.

We just have to accept that sooner or later they will win one.  Since I don't live in Milwaukee, it isn't the end of the world.  God help you Marquette supporters who live in Milwaukee on that one though.  They will be talking about it on the news for a full week.

I would love to compare the media reporting/articles in Wisconsin if Marquette loses to UWM versus when Madison lost to UWM.  Something gives me the feeling the tone of the articles will be much different.

Sir Lawrence

You men do a great job, and I appreciate the effort/expenses/time/etc. you spend to keep me entertained.  Congratulations and happy anniversary.

Thank you to all the moderators.    You guys have done a great job.    Sorry if we have made it difficult for you.    For the rest of us, if you want to laugh, go back to the first days of scoop and see the excitement about Lazar being cleared, about Damian Saunders committing, how much Ooze has improved, how impressed everyone is with the direction of Crean's  recruiting, and how oversigning is OK since Dominic James probably won't be back for his junior year.     Ahhhhhh, memories.

In retrospect, the MU/UWM series turned out to be as pointless and anti-climactic as I thought it would be 5 years ago.  Good stuff.

Probably would be closer to 6,000, 20,000, and 250,000 without all of the Chicos / Hoop accounts.

Bon Anniversaire MU Scoop!

Thanks for all the hard work guys.  It's a fun family to be part of.

Nice work, gentlemen! I made you a holiday themed present which is in my Superbar thread.

Okay...fine...my Warrior-O-Lantern has nothing to do with MUScoop's birthday. But it's still more wicked awesome than Lady Jane's!

Fitting that we got a new server for our b-day.
