Just received the print edition of Marquette magazine and who do I see a picture of in the class notes, Steve his wife and son in front of the Milwaukee Art museum who were noted as both MU grads and celebrating their wedding anniversary.  It was noted he is employed by the NY Knicks.

Yeah, I was glancing at it and didn't really look at the picture and just saw "Steve is employed by the New York Knicks" At first I thought he was a PR guy or something until I saw the full name.

Steve was the speaker at my daughter's grade school sports award banquet a few years back.  Great presentation.  Hung around signing and taking pictures as long as kids wanted.

Came across as Steve Novak from St. Margaret Mary.

I was a guest at Steve and Christina's wedding. At the end of the reception, to announce the after party, Shane Battier takes the microphone and says: "My name is Shane. I am one of Steve's co-workers...". Shane is a totally normal guy, too. Meet him and you cannot dislike him even though he is a Dukie.

Battier is one of those players you always wanted on your team. You would look at his fantasy stats and be like "why does this guy even play" and then you would look at his +/- and it would be off the charts. He just knew how to help his team win.

One of the better sports articles I've read in the last decade was about exactly that (by Michael Lewis, FYI, the most entertaining journalist on the planet): http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/magazine/15Battier-t.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Great article.  Interesting section regarding a defensive foul being the "worst result of a defensive play", per the stats guys running the Rockets at the time.  Buzz is clearly in agreement.

Met Steve at Wando's before our drubbing of the red rodents last year.  We remarked about all of the short people around us (yes, both Steve and I are bigger than the average bear).  Point is that he was.....  a regular MU alum.
