Yeah what would have been wrong with changing to a medieval warrior or something of that nature.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Joan of Arc Chapel is on Marquette's campus. Would be a near perfect way of being the Warriors and having a historically referenced mascot.

I think there would be less native american imagery than there is now if they changed it to a non-native American mascot.

A lot of people would stop wearing the old logo and go out and buy the new stuff.  Slowly the old logo would fade away while the new logo takes over.

Now the old logo will continue to be worn.

I agree.  Many, many teams have changed the mascot appearance without changing their name and eventually the new one dominates.  Sure some people will always have the retro stuff but the majority will be whatever is the newest.  Even our Golden Eagle mascot has changed in the last decade.

I am with you on this.  I know for a fact that this idea (along with the logo in your avatar, among other images) was pitched to the MU Board in a very creative way by a respected advertising professional (and MU Grad) at the time the last vote came up and it was pretty much just dismissed--their minds were closed to the possibility of using "Warriors" in any way.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I was polled by the University and suggested a European Warrior but PC took precedence.

It would help if they didn't select possibly the most godawful, generic name possible in "Golden Eagles."
