The short and long-term importance of the Marquette 2013 recruiting class

Wow. If this turns out to be anywhere near true, then there will be a Hiroshima all right. Except we're in the Enola Gay and Bucky Badger is on the ground.

What the article reminded me of was the salad days of Al McGuire. During that period of the early to mid-1970s, Al pretty much was assured of getting what he really wanted. The reasons were that we had a great coach that everyone knew would get the team into the NCAA; that we had a good, honest program; that our school was good; and, that you were welcome at MU, regardless of your ethnicity.

It took Al about five years before he started turning BIG TIME recruits consistently. He started in 1965 and '66 and by 1970-1971, he'd started the chain that brought Jim Chones, Larry McNeill, Maurice Lucas, Bo Ellis, Lloyd Walton, Butch Lee, Marcus Washington and Bernard Toone to Milwaukee. I'm beginning to smell that Buzz is about to position us the same way.

We may not get all of the guys PaintTouches mentions. But the fact is that we've had two good runs into the second weekend of the NCAA and that's impressive. Even if the Big East changes, our competition will still be Notre Dame, Georgetown, St. John's, Depaul, Cincinnati and probably Louisville. You're playing big time programs every year and given this year's schedule, you'll be on television a lot!

I'm wondering if J.T. Tokado wishes he'd gone somewhere closer to home??????

Yeah, want me some of that Diamond Stone.  I hope DWilson's already putting on the full court press.  He's got footwork and touch down low like Gardner, has great defensive instincts, and runs the court like a SF.  Would love it if he decided to end his recruitment early with a verbal to MU.

I totally understand a big-time recruit going to Duke or UK to ensure a couple final four. However, when there are this many guys in one area you got to think they could do something special at MU. Stone, Looney and Williams would bring 3 Top 25 guys who play different positions, along with anyone else Buzz recruits. We be a top-10 in the nation with a great hometown story line.
