I know there's a lot of (well...a bit of) debate as to what Thomas' role might be, but the kid is the best shooter Marquette has had since Novak.

Now why do people say this?  He was a 38.8% 3 point shooter his two years at South Dakota.  That puts him behind the likes of Maurice Acker, DJO and Travis Diener.

I have been concerned every year with what will happen after seniors graduate because we have had such strong seniors.  That being said, I think Wilson has potiential to be 15-20 ppg player.  I think Garnder has potiential to be 15-20 ppg player.  And I think Blue has potiential to be 15-20 ppg player.  I think Jones will be better and I think Anderson will probably look great off the bench as well as Mayo.  If players progress normally and we have one contributing freshmen, I think we will be pretty solid.

He's a white 6'2" shooting guard who got a D1 basketball scholarship out of HS. How could he not be a great shooter?

Not to beat a dead horse, but I would be amazed if he has anything but a bit role next year.

I think he'll have a small role and it will be sporadic depending on the match-ups (similar to Gardner before the Otule injury).

MU will be great on the primary and secondary fast break next year. However, in the 1/2 court, they could struggle. Jake and Gardner might be the best 1/2 court pure scoring options (especially when most of the other players are slashers and streaky shooters).

If Mayo/Taylor/Vander/Junior become decent 3pt threats, then Jake will ride the pine. If those guys all shoot 25%, Jake is going to get minutes because we will see a ton of 2-3 zone again.

A couple reasons. One, because I've watched him shoot. Watched his stroke, his form, his range, and his accuracy. And what he shot at South Dakota has nothing to do with what he'll shoot here. He was on a team where he was the focal point of the defense, or at least one of the top two. Here, he will be the fifth option almost every time he's on the floor. Part of the reason Novak could be so effective as a freshman (shooting 51%) was because the defense had to account for Wade, Diener, and R-Jax. That often left him open. That will be the case for Thomas next year.

I'm not saying he'll play the role that Acker, DJO, or Diener did for us. But I do think he's a better spot-up shooter than any of them, and have little doubt that he'll get less defensive attention than any of them did as well.

I think Steve Taylor is going to be a better college player then High School. If you look at his High School, (Simeon) he plays second fiddle to Jabari Parker and maybe even 3rd fiddle considering you have Kendrick Nunn there as well. Steve Taylor reminds me of a Jae Crowder. He has size at 6'8" and he can score inside and out. I think that he will have a big impact next year as Jamil's backup.

He reminds me more of Jamil, with his length, than he does Jae.  And yeah, I would not be surprised if he gets minutes next year.

Honestly, it has been pointed out to him repeatedly, but I have no idea why he has to stick returns into his posts instead of just letting them wrap.  I mean, word processors have been around for 30 years now???

I dont think it is hard to imagine us being a less powerful team offensively next year.  yes guys will step up but we are losing two supremeely talented offensive players.

With that said I think Mu can be a real tuff out again next year, because I feel we will have our best defensive team that we have had since 1994 next year.

We will almost assuredly not score as many but if we can not allow the other team to score as many we can once again be really good.  i think if this team really buys into a defensive concept and avoids the "we can just outscore" teams as we saw against Rutgers ans at other times.  If we can do that I think we ca still be real good.

Take the defensive metality of a team Like Pittsburgh has ( before this year) and use our size and tougness to win games 68-58 night in and night out is going to need to be the approach.  the size toughness and defensive abilty is there.

Well these are not emails....these are postings.  And yes that is how they look.  Just stop hitting "enter" after every line and let the sentences wrap themselves.

Agree with this.

Maybe the only difference heading from previous seasons is we will not have a proven scorer/shooter back.

When we lost Wade, we still had Diener. When we lost Diener, we still had Novak. When we lost Novak, we still had the Amigos. When we lost the Amigos, we still had Lazar. When we lost Lazar, we still had Jimmy and DJO. When we lost Jimmy, we still had Jae and DJO. In all of the above, the replacements were already established as scorers/shooters.

We will be operating on the potential of guys to go from 8 ppg to mid-double-digits, or in Gardner's case for him to be in the kind of shape to give us more minutes. Plus, might actually need a freshman to hit some shots the way Mayo did a couple months ago.

It'll be fun to watch how it develops. In the meantime, I'm enjoying 2011-12 to worry too much about next season yet!

DJO is the focal point of defenses in the big east and he's shooting better.
