Wow.   Unashamedly backwater.

Edit:   Most other boarders are disgusted with the post.  Still...wow.

Buzz the "Cherrypicker"
I have no respect for this guy.  His role in "cherrypicking" suspensions - this guy plays the 1st half, that guy plays the 2nd half, show how schools like Marquette only care about winning.

How on Earth will black kids recruited to play basketball (they sure aren't there for anything else) learn a lesson by getting half game suspensions?

It's safe to say that if the players involved were punished for the entire game, WVU would have won.  Now, that would have taught these kids a lesson.

In the movie "Remember the Titans," Coach Boone tells Coach Yost that his coddling of a black player was not helping the player, but crippling the player for life.  The parallel to Marquette's and Buzz the Cherrypicker's actions is striking.

The funny thing is, I bet Huggins would not have done sh*t if his players violated a minor team rule.
Farva:"Give me six Schlitzes."
O'Hagan: "Take it easy, Rod."
Farva: "Open bar, dude!"

Huggybear is probably to drunk to notice if his players violate team rules. Im guess his BAC was somewhere are .13 last night I mean he did tone down the drinking recently

Boozemon Barro

Hmm I never thought of the race angle. I think he's spot on with his assessment.

WellsstreetWanderer

Nonsense! Who knows what the violations were or their severity. Talking out the top of his hat with no knowledge of anything. remember Buzz' recruiting mantra about making players better people first?
I trust his judgement and this saved WVU from being blownout at home

TallTitan34

For what it's worth, none of the other posters agreed with that first guy.

What does "cherry-pickin" Williams mean?  Some one care to fill me in?

pure genius stuff by Bill Simmons, remember to read day 2

TallTitan34

I assume the guy was trying to say he picks his spots when to suspend players (ex. first half but not the whole game).

I don't know if cherry picker is the appropriate term though.

MisterJaylenBrownMU

By the way, having read through a few threads on that WVU board makes me see MU Scoop in a whole different light.  Just a few highlights relating to Buzz's dance:

-  A comparison between Buzz and the Indians, who pillaged and raped after victory
-  "Kill that man"
-  "I wish he would have tripped and broke his neck."
-  "I hope he gets herpes."
-  "Not threatening anybody, but I wouldn't shed a tear if there were a karmically fatal single-vehicle accident on his drive home across Milwaukee tonight."
-  "I hope he gets hit by a bus."

There are some gems when the posters get in fights with each other, too.  I'm suddenly glad that our meltdowns are usually limited to fighting over Tom Crean's role in history or people nitpicking during a 24-5 season.  I'll take that.

ecompt

Did Huggy ever suspend any of the "stuident-athletes" for one second when they committed all those felonies at Cincy? My God.

robmufan

I still believe if it was one player ore we had a full roster, the suspension would be handled differently...if all 4 were suspended we would have had 5 able players, and that will not work out.

chapman

The MO for a lot of coaches is just to not start players.  They get in after the first or second media timeout.  A half is more extreme, especially when it involves four players.  Guess we should apologize to that WVU fan for not suspending enough of our players to hand them the game.

Anybody else think this is a non issue if the location of the ESPN commentators is on the other side of the court?

Almost impossible:

Can't put the student section behind the benches.
Benches have to be next to the scorer's table.
No space at the scorer's table to fit the television crew.

But, other than that, yes - if he's not walking straight at the student section it gets much less play. And by the way, what were all the fans waiting for? It seems to me they were malingering.

robmufan

good point, however not all (but seems like a majority) of sections are sideline...ours is baseline.  That is what made me think of it

Well, history is squarely on your side.

I've always been interested to see what the Bradley center would look like with that kind of set up. Use the movable risers (everything below row H or so) to create a little separation between the permanent seats above and a student section below, that way students could stand the whole time and still have season ticket holders be able to see over the top of them.

They were doing what every idiot does behind the announcers:  trying to get their mug on TV. It never ceases to amaze me how the brains melt when a TV camera gets near.

True enough - but it looked like there were pockets of it throughout the arena. Maybe people stay until the song is over?
