It could extend him to 2013-14 if granted. No guarantee of that, but he certainly won't be here in 2014-15.

So the 6 seasons part is correct though.

Yes.

2008-09 Freshman year
2009-10 Medical redshirt
2010-11 Sophomore year
2011-12 Junior year (Hardship)
2012-13 Senior year
2013-14 Senior year (Hardship granted)

Sort of.  It would come from a Five-Year Rule waiver, not from a hardship waiver.  The timing and requirements are far different.  If he is unable to play this year (i.e., doctors say he can't play), he'd be in good shape to be granted another year on his five-year clock.

Dennis Krause tweeted that Buzz Williams was "pretty candid" about Otule's status on Inside MU basketball which must have been shot yesterday before they left for DC.  It airs at 5pm tonight so we should know more then.

Anyone in the Milwaukee area want to give an update on what Buzz has to say?

For those not watching, Buzz doesn't anticipate him playing again this year, but will make a decision at the end of this week. Buzz said he's not at peace with the decision to send Chris back out there. To me that means his knee would allow him to play, but Buzz isn't willing to risk his future and career. As stated above though, you can't really take Buzz at his word all the time with injuries.

Listening to Buzz, it sounded like far more of a philosophical/emotional question than anything. It's weird...it almost sounds like Otule could play now, but that it's as much about the team getting used to DG starting as it is getting a healthy CO back.

I'll admit, I'm really confused by all of this. If he's healthy and capable of coming back, I can't see any possible downside. As Buzz mentioned, CO is one of the few guys on the team that contributes without needing the ball, and both he and DG are better by being able to rotate in and out with each other.

I maintain that for this team to reach its potential, it needs Otule. And with there being no guarantee of a sixth year being granted, why you wouldn't try to get him back if he's ready is beyond me.

Agreed brewcity, that is kind of the vibe I got. I was almost a little angry because it sounded like Buzz was the one holding him back. Obviously we don't know much about the situation, and Chris may want to sit out this year, and it is ultimately his decision. However, it sounded like he was able to play or at least not far from playing based on physical reasons alone.

Six years is really kinda stretching out your college career.  I don't really see it as a benefit to MU for Chris to return for a sixth.  I think that the decision is eating at Buzz because he wants to be fair to Chris.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

We have already seen marked improvement from CO this year.  If he sits out the remainder of this year, comes back as a stud for TWO MORE YEARS, he certainly will benefit MU on the court, benefit MU with being a 7 footer (6' 11'), maybe get a sniff to play pro, in turn benefit scoopers and recruits with the age old question of why no 7'?

Love to see him this year if he can go, if not I see a huge benefit for CO to return for a 6th year, if allowed.

Was careful not to say NBA.  However, two more years would certainly help his chances for the next level.

I think he would have a decent shot to play overseas.  The NBA will never be a reality for CO.  He is already pretty old. :)
