1250 AM Radio-Why I am boycotting them

I think we have had other posts about AM 1250 and their obvious crush on Bucky Badger sports.  I don't have a ton of problem with that since I/we live in WI.  The problem I do have is the mocking of MU whenever they do mention us.  For every comment like "we like Buzz and think he's a good coach" I hear 3 mocking comments about the Big East turning into Conference USA or the MAC or talking about MU being the place where sexual assaults go unpunished, bashing our recruits or recruiting policy (creaning/buzzkill) or what have you.  I know the program and the school and conference aren't perfect.  Mistakes have been made, but how long do we have to pay for those few missteps?   I guess I just wish they were more even-handed in their coverage of MU and until that changes (and it probably never will)  I'm done with them.  I would like to encourage you all to do the same.  See you Friday night!

Did it awhile ago. They are extremely unprofessional and rude. And it's not just towards Marquette. They jump all over athletes and bash teams all the time and think it's hilarious. It's the same tired, immature schtick used over and over. Mike Wickett (not sure if I spelled it right and I don't care) is the absolute worst offender with "Sparky" in a close second. These are spiteful, cowardly men that frankly I don't have time for. It's embarrassing as a Wisconsin resident to have these guys as a representative of sports fans in the state.

Since 540 came along, they are really more like a third tier radio station.  I forget they even existed.  540 blows them away.

I didn't even know that 1250 was a station.  I only switch to AM for live games, which are only on 620 and 540.

I removed them from the presets in both of my cars 2 yrs ago for exactly the same reasons.  They were pathetic then, and I can only assume they still are.

I don't know if my boycott has hurt them, but as long as they tarnish the reputation of the school I love they are dead to me.

Hate spewers do so on the radio for two reasons: 1) there's an audience that will listen to them and 2) they need to say controversial and unpopular things to garner attention and more listeners.

Tuning them off is doing the right thing.

I heard them mention the Big East on Tuesday morning. Not sure if they had a longer segment on the topic, but I just heard them briefly mention it before a break.

Wickett and Chuck were laughing and mocking the additions being rumored by the league. They rattled off Air Force, Navy, Army, and UCF for sure...possibly one or two other schools, not sure. But they kept mocking the service academies and Wickett said "this is what we've come to"? Not sure who "we" is, since he's neither an alum nor a fan of the program. They then said, hey, with those teams coming in, Marquette can win the league now!

So, I shoot an e-mail over right away. I said if you're being critical of the football side of the Big East, OK fine. But then I asked if they were aware that a majority of the teams that they mentioned, particularly the service academies, are for football-only, and thus would have no impact on Marquette.

Of course, I got no response. They are lazy and hear a headline and discuss it. That's what I cannot stand about sports radio. They have the power of the microphone, can spew anything they want, regardless of whether or not it's accurate. If they get called out for it, they simply ignore it.

The only downside to 540 is that they often don't have local programming in the mornings (Mike and Mike...ehh) and they don't have the signal strength to Milwaukee that 1250 (or honestly, even that 670 WSCR from Chicago) does.

But it's definitely the better station.

I pull in 540 just fine from the northern burbs of Chicago.  If you can't pick it up in Milwaukee, you need change the coat hanger on your car.

Na, 540 has really weird reception in areas of downtown.  It's fine in the suburbs, though.  Must be something to do with their antenna(s) placement(s)?

The only bit I know about 1250 is what I get on from this board. Has Bill Michaels improved the quality at all? I didn't mind him on 620 when he was doing updates.

I really don't listen to 540 either, can't stand Needles or Homer.

I like Wickett/Chuck in the mornings as well as Dan Patrick.  Bill Michaels i solid during the mid-day.  I am not a big fan of The Big Show save for LeRoy Butler.  1250's pre and post game Brewers coverage is head and shoulders better than 620 and 540... Tim Allen is awesome.  The Petros and Money show is entertaining in the evenings, especially Lance Romance on Thursdays at 8:15pm.

Homer is an excellent play by play guy but his talk show is unbearable.  The D-List guys are knowledgeable but stuck in the 80's.  Mike and Mike is a good national alternative to Wickett/Chuck in the mornings.

Bill Michaels is horrendous. He doesn't have any general knowledge of sports whatsoever. He constantly mispronounces names of people, doesn't know when key events happened, where people went to college...etc. How he ever got a job in sports radio is beyond me.

The problem is that MIlwaukee is spoiled. They have Bob Uecker and Wayne Larabee for the Brewers and Packers and for years had Jim and Max on the Packer Radio Network. After this group, Homer is, well ordinary.

I've listened to Homer's talk show for years and he's loud, abrasive and really knows less than he thinks he does.

This. Bill Michaels is the worst, I don't know if 1250 made him dumber but he has no clue when it comes to anything other then basic sports knowledge. He literally gets on the microphone without any research and makes a fool of himself. I can think of one example off the top of my head, a few weeks back before the MLB playoffs started he had no idea who the brewers were playing that night and I think it was during the middle of the Phillies series. Terrible.

Milwaukee sports radio is like that episode of South Park mocking the 2004 election between a Turd Sandwich vs. a Gigantic Deusche.

540 vs. 1250? Please. Both are terrible, with 1250 just a bit better. Sparky and Wickett are the WORST guys on radio. And if you look up Homer and his moronic afternoon cohort (Thunder?), they are the epitomy of amateaur-hour. It's embarrassing that Milwaukee sports radio on 540 sounds like it's literally being broadcast from my basement. The D-list is no better with two guys that sound alike as well.

Sparky is actually the worst. He's the "contrarian" to their three-man show...you know, the guy that about EVERY sports radio show has. He's the guy that spews crap from his mouth just ot get a reaction and/or show how "smart" he is. And to get people mad to call in. Gary's ok. Josh is really good, and Rami's good too. Other than that...ugh.

Just disregard the Chuck-ett show in the a.m. and stay for bits/pieces of the Big Show. Oh, and you can at least deal w/Homer when he talks to Wilde.
