I was just pondering this as I looked over some Al's Run info. While there is a great history of Al and the Marquette Warriors, a national championship under Buzz may start a new era. Any thoughts?

The Golden Eagles could win back-to-back championships and they would still be the Warriors for most.  Success doesn't validate the name change.

I don't think BRMU23 was talking about a name change, obviously Marquette is the Warriors and always will be. I think he was saying that if Buzz guides this team to a national championship will people start to not focus on Al as much as they do now and begin to look at MU in a diffrent light.
Bring back FFP!!!

Al was a character, Buzz is a character....I am a Buzz fan, but will never forget Al.   Al was THE coach when I was forming my allegiance to MU.

The poll question is: "will the name Golden Eagles be more accepted?", so it's all about the name.

Yeah my bad, I didnt realize this was a poll. I thought it was just a normal thread. Either way when we win the national championship here in the next few years Buzz will create his own legacy that has nothing to do with what mascot represents our institution, it will be about the guys.

Probably not.   But always remember, no matter what, "We Are.....Marquette."    And that is all that matters.

UCLA has won a subsequent championship, but John Wooden is still THE COACH.

Wooden won 10 championships to Al's 1. As much as I love Al, there's a big difference there.

For what it's worth, a freshman next year at Marquette will have spent their entire life in the Golden Eagle era.

I prefer the name Warriors but I spent my entire time at Marquette as a Golden Eagle.  Dwyane Wade is a Golden Eagle.

Soon the majority of alumni will be former Golden Eagles and not Warriors.  As a result the name Golden Eagles is going to be more accepted even if Marquette doesn't win a championship.

I use Golden Eagle and Warrior interchangeably.  Sometimes I even portmanteau them together... War Eagle, Golden Warrior, Warbirds, Swift Eagle With Sharp Talon.

Sure, this may be sacrilege to some, but I think using Golden Eagle exclusively does a disservice to MU's history and likewise, using Warrior exclusively does a disservice to the present.

Those who hold onto the past with two hands will go ass-first into the future.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

any way/position to get to a future is a good thing in my mind.  i just hope the "golden eagle" thing will carry an asterisk with it and the warriors are never forgotten and is continued to be used unofficially.  in other words, all incoming freshman need to be indoctrinated as warriors first and foremost.
