Doesn't some of these numbers just speak to the lack of talent in this pro am?  Other then the Mu players there are maybe a few talented players honestly.  There are virtually no BE level players.  It is a nice event and cool to get a chance to see the guys during summer but really who is DG being guarded by?

MuMark

Its not really the talent its the pace of play and the lack of defense because their are no coaches.

They play almost he whole game at run and gun speed so they get tired and rest on defense.

Some of the kids playing are older guys that played at a lower level but are now playing pro ball overseas.

You might not have heard of them but they can play.

Miles McKay is a player. Dejuante Wade can flat out play. Kam Cerroni, TJ Bray, Coy Smith, these guys can all ball. It may not be the NC Pro-Am, but there are a lot of good players out there. I would take a lot of these players on our current team if they had eligibility. I think McKay, especially, would be a dynamite addition if he could join Marquette right now.

In the category of meaningless stats, I just finished watching Davante Gardner put up 55 points and 22 rebounds in a 99-93 win.  Did just about everything but dunk in the game, including a block on the perimeter with about 12 seconds left to ice the game.

He had 11 assists too. I know that the stats in this event are ridiculous. Buycks is averaging 40 something in the Pro-Am we know he didn't do anywhere near that at Marquette. At the same time with guys like Davante, Vander, and Jamail this only helps their confidence. Davante putting up these numbers, when I haven't heard anyone say anything about Otule at all shows that his offense is much better than Otule's. That will be the most interesting part of next year IMO. How does Buzz split up the time between those two. Davante isn't getting winded as easily as he used to and foul trouble is his biggest weakness. I personally would like to see Gardner start, but I have been a huge fan of Gardner since the Bucknell. game.

So if DJO doesn't drop a Chamberlain in one of these pro-am games, it's time to hit the panic button.

DJO isn't playing in the Milwaukee Pro-Am, he's playing in the North Carolina Pro-Am. Nothing against IWB, but the talent level down there is a wee bit higher than ours is. On the plus side, he has been impressing with his play.

I think it does help some players. I see Anderson geting more comfortable and his game is improving. I do think it hurts Vander and Jones. Jones is not encourged to expand his game and just waits for a chance to shoot the three. Based on pro am, Jones is the worst player on MU and that is including Jake Thomas. Vander does play defense, but Vander will only help MU, if he greatly limits the amount of shots he takes when he is in a game. Playing in the pro am where he is shooting everytime he can is teaching him to do the opposite.

This is laughable. Vander is not going to be a 20ppg guy, but he's definitely going to score some points for MU. His shooting struggles were largely mental last season. When he went up for a shot, you could almost see him thinking through the process of his refined shooting form - that's never a good thing. The more he missed, the more he pressed. The more he pressed, the more he missed. His current stroke looks much better from the little bit I've seen.

Also, playing in a free-for-all pro-am is not going to make him think he should take 20 shots a game come January.

Vander drove me mental, when he would shoot last year. The less he shoots the better it is for my mental status. ;D
