The score says they are trying to get Buzz on 670 before 10:00 P.M.

Lawrence Holmes says the Butler pick saved the Bulls draft.  Nothing but positive things to say about his game.  They love the work ethic NBA Marquette players before him have had and they know he has it too.

Only concern is where he will fit into the rotation.

Buzz interview:

Talked to Jimmy right after picked.
Buzz currently with Wes.
Buzz ignored recruiting services when went after Jimmy.  Went on character and instinct.
When you have an edge like Jimmy and want to prove people wrong you cant be stopped.
Buzz says he's just an average coach.
Buzz says JB can guard small 2s, 3, and some 4's.
JB worked out with 16 teams.
JB translates to NBA because he's versatile. Guarded Rick Jackson and Kemba.
Offensively he is a 3.  Mostly a driver.
JB not a master at anything but he isn't bad at anything.  Jack of all trades.
JB was ranked 81st best player in Texas.
Cant write a better story than Jimmy's.
Style will translate well to Tom Thibs.
JB became a guy you couldn't get off the floor with DJ, WM, JM, and LH.
Jason Goff asked Buzz to tell story of how JB arrived at Marquette.
Buzz never wanted JB's story to take away from him as a player. Similar to Otule's eye.
What JB went through as a child toughened him up to be a great person and player.
JB didn't want anyone to feel sorry for him with his story but wanted it to help others.
When they make the movie a slighty overweight bald ninth grade education actor will play him.

Lawrence asked Buzz to tell DJO to take it easy on DePaul next year.

Three most meaningful tidbits for me

Matthews and all of current team at Buzz's house tonight for the draft.

Butler worked out for 16 different teams.

Didn't want the story of his upbringing to be the story.

Buzz is just a great interview. I love listening to that guy talk. Thanks for the heads up TallTitan on him coming up.

GM Gar Forman talks about knowing about Jimmy Butler since he was at Tyler Comm College.  "Jimmy fits the Chicago Bulls to a T"

Jimmy Butler on ESPN 1000 last night...
Sounds like Jimmy will be the only rookie joining the team this year.  Sounds like we'll be seeing him on the floor this year!

I actually agree that Butler fits the Bulls to a T, even though I still don't like the Bulls.  They do not need a guy that wants the ball, as they have Rose and Boozer.  They really need a in-your-grill kind of defender, and they found that in Butler.

The question is if Butler can stop Wade, since LeBron stops himself already.

LeBron only stops himself in the Finals...and Jimmy won't face him in the finals (barring a trade).  So, hopefully Jimmy can stop him in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Jason Goff was on The Score this morning discussing the Bulls draft. He's not a big fan of the Bulls other 1st Round pick because he would have liked to see them take a SG, but he really likes the Butler pick because he's a good character guy who will be appreciative of the opportunity and work his tail off, although "the kid can't shoot." He also praised Wesley and Zar and said that Marquette is the type of school that takes 3-star talent and turns them into NBA players. I highly doubt that many HS ballers are listening to The Score at 7:30am (or at all) but it's nice to know that Buzz and MU are getting a better and better rep amongst basketball people.

GGGG

Butler has a nice mid-range game, but I am not sure how that will translate to the NBA.  If Goff means "he can't shoot a consistant NBA-range three point shot," I would have to agree with him.  Hopefully he can develop that.

I don't know how Norris Cole will translate to the NBA, but he was a hell of a lot of fun to watch at Cleveland State.  The kid can play.  Tough to be a PG behind Rose on the depth chart, though.

The Bulls traded Cole's rights to Miami. They traded up to take a big Serbian shooter who won't play with the team until 2015, if at all.

Now that you mention it, I remember hearing that.  My son and I even discussed that Miami might be a good spot for Cole.  Damn, I'm getting old and forgetful.

He just didn't need it.  His mid-range game got to be deadly and he proved he had the 3 pt range when needed.  Given his work ethic and how he's improved over his career, I bet he becomes a fairly consistent 3 pt shooter soon enough

Wow.  Buzz on with Lawrence Holmes.  He hates Buzz.  I am a huge fan of Lawrence, but we have differing opinions of Buzz.  Lawrence is a DePaul alumnus and their color commentator on radio broadcasts.  Maybe he has changed his thoughts on Buzz.

I'm not sure what Lawrence thinks of Buzz during games but he threw a lot of love his way. Lawrence is actually one of the better sports radio guys in Chi. as he is willing to look at things from both sides and he usually doesn't blow his wad over Chi. players.

"Initially, Jimmy was going to go to Kentucky, and Billy Gillespie was the coach there at the time, and he's a good friend of mine..."

So a three-star recruit heading to UK automatically bumps him up to a four-star, no? ;)

Like Homer does on MU guys? ;)

Three years in, and Buzz appears to be the same dude. The honeymoon IS over, right? He should be revealing his TRUE character, right?

I hope what we've read is it...cuz I like it!

Someone should take the radio cut about MU taking 3 stars and developing NBA talent and use it in an MU video. I just hope more 4-5 stars show interest than 3 stars! lol

Agree. Jimmy's playing time and ultimately the length of career may be determined simply by his ability to shoot. I think he can do everything else well enough to be a versatile role player. If he can shoot well (enough), he will get minutes and will have a long career (IMHO).

AZWarrior

He wasn't called on to shoot, very much at least, from the outside within our offense.  Yet when he did shoot the long ball, my recollection is he was effective.  And I also recall in one of the work outs he went to he did extremely well in out side shooting drills.

My expectation is that he will develop an effective outside game to compliment the inside strengths we already know he has.
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.
