Radford has narrowed its search to a handful of assistants.

Sources told CBSSports.com that athletic director Robert Lineburg hosted five candidate: Marquette's Aki Collins, Old Dominion's Jim Corrigan, VCU's Mike Jones, Maryland's Scott Spinelli and Alabama's John Brannen.

Lineburg will replace Brad Greenberg, who resigned last month following an NCAA investigation in which he gave one of his players improper benefits. Sources said Greenberg – the former Philadelphia 76ers general manager and also brother of Virginia Tech coach Seth Greenberg – wasn't honest when questioned by the NCAA.

Greenberg won the Big South title in 2009 and went to the NCAA tournament, but the program has struggled since and went 5-24 this past season.

I hope Aki holds out. Open coaching positions around this time usually are indicative of programs that need a lot of turnaround.

There will be better opportunities later.

Big risk, big reward.  Yes, Radford needs a lot of turnaround, but if Aki pulls it off he'll be moving up within a couple of years.

And Oliver Purnell got his start at Radford.  You could have a worse career.
