Every mock draft I've seen has him from a high second round to not even in it at all. I guess a lot will be decided with individual team work outs.

For his part, Butler said he's not worried about the mocks or even a possible lockout this summer.

Here's an interview with Butler on the draft: http://www.thenorthwestern.com/article/20110519/OSH02/110518166/The-Northwestern-goes-one-one-Marquette-s-Jimmy-Butler-his-NBA-Draft-prospects?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|s

A lot of teams are high on him.  It'll be interesting to see how this weekends workouts go in Chicago!

Think Jimmy stands a great chance to get drafted.  Definitely would be shocked if he didn't get drafted.  Too versatile, too hard working, too good of character.  His ability to defend multiple positions will be what gets him drafted, along with his team approach and ability to get to the line.

If he works on his outside shot he could gain some long-term traction too.

I say second round, then to NBA Developmental League to further work on his game.

I'm resigning myself to this...he doesn't have the huge upsides that the NBA loves to waste on 1st rounders (see Qyntel Woods, Kendrick Brown, Zarko Cbarkapa, Niko Tskitishvili) but is just a PLAYER. I am hopeful he sneaks into the late 1st but definitely a 2nd rounder that will eventually earn playing time (like Wes did).

Not so sure I'd say Jimmy doesn't have a big upside - I believe he is only 21 or a very yound 22...either way that is pretty young to be entering the league.  Jimmy played so within himself at MU, it seems as though he could have scored more if he wanted.  Was such an efficient offensive player..definitely not a volume shooter/scorer - so that can be deceptive, as to his upside (scoring) potential...

Regardless, sure hope he gets drafted and think he will..possibly even late 1st round.

They interviewed Celtic GM Danny Ainge and asked him about the combine process and he wasn't concerned so much at what was going on with the action on the court today and said the player interviews with the teams would be a large focus as to who they would draft and that may bode very well for Jimmy.

I'm just hoping that if/when he gets drafted it is to a decent team. I hope he doesn't get screwed over like Zar did.

Getting drafted into the NBA is hardly getting screwed over (keep in mind Lazar made the first round too).  It would be great to see Jimmy go to a team where he has the chance to play and show what he's capable of doing, but if his name gets called I don't care what team he's going to.  There are very few cases like Wes Matthews in the NBA, so I think getting drafted would be huge for Jimmy.

I bet he prays every night he gets screwed like Lazar did.  One pick later and who knows what Lazar gets for a payday.

No wonder Wes got on Jimmy in a Tweet about him saying "um" during interviews

To rebut the post you quoted:  Obviously it's better to get drafted than not to get drafted.

But *if* Jimmy get's drafted, it'd be nice if he went to an organization that wasn't driving down the highway ass-first.

marquette99

My hope is that the fact that he is so comfortable NOT being the go-to guy really gets him a decent draft spot.  Most guys in the draft are used to getting the ball a lot and continuing to shoot until they have their rhythem, then many get to the nba and can't get into the flow shooting twice a game.

Jimmy really likes deferring - to the three amigos, then lazar, and even this year crowder, djo or even buycks in games where they we're hot - then jimmy swoops in for the score off the the miss or pops when they double someone etc.

Maybe the is wishful thinking, but I'm hoping a gm will believe jimmy can be a major contributor even when he is the. 5th option on the court and pick him over a "go-to" college guy who needs 20 shots a game to be productive.

Possibly the Bulls in first or second round

As a Bulls fan, I'd love him, but I'm not sure he fits their needs at the NBA level. They need another scoring option at the 2, and it seems like Butler projects as a defensive specialist at the next level. He'd fit great on the Heat, where they wouldn't need him to score and he could back up both Wade and James. Just my opinion, I could really see Chicago going for Marshon Brooks.

DomJamesToTheBasket

I think the Spurs at 29 are going to take a long look at him.  He already has a workout scheduled with them and he fills a big need.  Bruce Bowen 2.0!

It looks like Jimmy KILLED it at the combine!  He finished among the top performers in nearly EVERY category. 8-)
