SPORTSQ&A with Jarmal Reid: Marquette Basketball Recruit
April 13, 2011 11:40 pm First Regime 0 Comments Jarmal Reid, 6'7", 230 lbs, is a small forward who currently attends Columbia High School in Decatur, Georgia. Reid has great upside and is known for his ability to score. Reid has good three point range and would fit in with Buzz Williams offensive style very well.

Reid is ranked 73th on ESPNU 100 Class of 2012.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jarmal recently.

ZH: What are you going to work on this summer to improve your game?

JR: The main things I will be working on are conditioning and improving my ball handling skills.

ZH: How has your AAU team, Southern Kings, been playing?

JR: We are playing decent but we can definitely improve.

ZH: What shoe are you hoopin' in right now?

JR: All white Lebron 8s.

ZH: Who is the toughest player you have played against?

JR: Jershon Cobb, Derrick Favors, Ricardo Ledo and Rodney Purvis.

ZH: Which schools are at the top of your list?

JR: Alabama, West Virginia, South Florida, Georgia and Marquette.

ZH: What are your thoughts on Marquette?

JR: They keep a good squad and they are very well coached.

ZH: Which NBA player would you compare your game to?

JR: Jamal Mashburn

ZH: What's your favorite NBA team?

JR: Boston Celtics are my favorite team.

Sounds like he's reading his own press clippings:

Reid has continued to improve his perimeter game to the point where he is a legitimate combo forward. He is a solid rebounder but is now a capable three point shooter. He is also able to put the ball on the floor and create scoring opportunities for himself when attacking in a straight line. He consistently got into the lane off the dribble and hit fade away jumpers or finished at the rim. Reid's game now has a poor man's Jamal Mashburn feel to it. Reid is still not the quickest player on the floor but he is skilled enough to play both forward spots offensively. He is a good passer as well who can see over defenders with ease. Reid is a coast to coast threat if not brought under control by the transition defenders due to his ability to handle the ball in the open floor.
