Seems like while Buzz may stay, the odds are this staff won't be intact next year. Imagine if Benford, Collins, and Monarch all got head jobs. My only worry is if any recruits might have committed more to the assistant and could reconsider. While it would bode well for the program and should help Buzz lure top assistants, I have to imagine recruiting might take a step back as we might need to rebuild relationships with interested recruits.

I'm amazed that a newspaper has the list of all the candidates.  Did the school provide the list or is this some kind of open records deal?  If I were one of the applicants and hadn't told my boss I was applying, not a good situation.

Also, if I recall, on this subject, Guy V., at UH, told me he thought very well of Pat Foster,(wanting him to succeed him at UH) and Pat has been about the only one who has had any sustained success, at Lamar. Its a pretty big turnaround challenge, for Monarch, or anyone who takes the job--right?

By the way, Jerry, with the Final Four in Houston next week,  it would be timely for you to please link some stuff here (maybe in a new thread topic "Big Stadium Final Fours had their Genesis in the Game of the Century, in 68")
that you've written on the Game of the Century in '68. Heck-- you were there-right? Tell us about UCLA, Wooden, UH, Guy V.--any basketball lore.

As the big stage of the Reliant Stadium Final Four is upon us, we'd enjoy, here, learning/recalling the historical symmetry of how big stage NCAA BB kicked off here, with that special game, in 1968, only a few hundred yards from this year's Final Four location.

Also, on this board UH news, as to AD Rhoades is followed, here, as he has ties back to MU.

My guess is open records.  I agree with your comment, though, and was surprised to see this out in public.

after a cursory glance at those candidates, Monarch certainly stands out above the rest.  Maybe a couple other attractive candidates with DI experience, but he seems to be the only high major experience.  Question: why don't more assistants at mid majors, etc apply for a job like this?

After a quick look over the list of 31 candidates, it would appear that about 10 of the 31 are legit candidates who may be considered (including Monarch).  Lots of others throwing their hats in the ring.  Have any of you Scoopers applied?

I think Benford will land a head job next year. Also, if Buzz does jump ship, which I think is highly unlikely,  I wouldn't mind if we made Benford our guy.

Public University.  I'm guessing Buzz is aware that his assistants are sniffing and being sniffed.  I'm sure he's proud of them taking the opportunity to fly on their own and such.
