For those of you who missed, Tarkanian was on the Dan Patrick show this morning.  He doesn't sound too good from the health perspective and I thought he didn't look great on the HBO show the other day either...hope he is ok.

At any rate, DP asked him who was on the one recruit that got away that you wish you had landed.  He said...Maurice Lucas.  That led to a Marquette discussion when DP asked what it was like recruiting against Al.  Tark said it was really tough because Al only went after 3 guys a year and put all his energy into those 3 guys, usually landing 1 or 2 of them each season.

I heard it this morning here in Vegas.  Tark is getting up there.  He always speaks about AL in glowing terms.  UNLV fans overwhelmingly like MU & AL and hate UW-Madison and their style of play!  When Bucky made it to the final four they called their style of play "farm boy hatchet ball"!

That would have been to Long Beach State and not UNLV. Not much of a choice, really

Long Beach regularly made it to the Elite 8 back then, only to get knocked out by UCLA.  Of course those were the days that the tournament was truly regionalized, so UCLA only had to beat the likes of Long Beach and Santa Clara to get to the Final Four.

Ralph Miller's Beavers were a machine back then

They finished a distant second to UCLA a couple times during the Wooden era, but it was the late 70s / early 80s when they peaked.  They actually had a kid from Milwaukee Madison High School who was a point guard out there...last name was Flowers...  I think he started at point for four years for Miller.
