I was at the Pac 10 Tourney last night and rumors from the USC camp is Haden may dump KO. Haden is really pissed KO was boozing it up the night before a game (with Lane Kiffin, gotta love that). Then KO got into it with a Arizona fan at JW Marriot that may have sealed the deal for KO to claim unemployment insurance.

He never learns.  Haden is a no-nonsense guy, too.  He's really trying to clean up the image.

When all the USC guys at the office asked about his hire I told them I would be stunned if he lasted 5 years because he wears out his welcome so fast.

As much as we all had fun with Mike Deane, this is why you don't go partying with the fans before or after a game.  It becomes fodder.

Man USC has had some bad luck hires over the years. Oneill, Majerus lasted two days and who can ever forget Tim Floyd? I almost did.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Haden has allowed Kiffin to push the envelope this year in the football offices, so I think his professor-like image helps his "no-nosense" i9mage rather than his actions.

Agreed.
I guess Haden's more or less stuck with Kiffin for at least another year (thanks to Mike Garrett), but something seems a bit incongruous here. The guy publicly lauds Lane Kiffin in the face of NCAA violations, but wants to fire his basketball coach for getting into a spat with a fan?

GGGG

USC's football violations didn't occur under Kiffen.

Norm

No, but Kiffin's already made two minor violations and his tenures at Tennessee is under investigation by the NCAA.

Haden will run Kiffin if he has to.  He's not going to do it based on what Kiffin has done at USC because he hasn't really don't anything wrong...yet.

What Norm said.
Kiffin had already admitted to multiple , albeit secondary, violations at UT before getting the USC job and was under investigation (and ultimately accused) of more serious violations when Haden publicly backed him.

That we know of.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

mugrad2006

Just talked to a classmate of mine (grad school) who is a USC grad and self-proclaimed Pac-10 sports nut (she is, it's a little scary) and mentioned KO's tumultuous history. She was completely oblivious to this fact and tried to blame it on KO's wife.  Guess this partly explains how that program gets away with what it does, and why the alumni/athletic director don't seem to care.
