1) National Championship
2) Championship Game
3) Final Four
4) Elight Eight
5) Big East Tournament Champion
6) Sweet Sixteen

However, a BET title is worthy of a banner while an elite eight appearance is not.

Sweet 16. Not even close. Success is measured by making the NCAA tournament and winning in the NCAA tournament. We're gonna make the tournament. Awesome! That's six years in a row, which is fantastic. But lets win a couple games and make it to the sweet 16. I'd take that all day over making a run in the Big East Tournament.

This.  As cool as it would be to win the BE tournament, I'd rather get to the sweet 16.

Much better national exposure and much more satisfying to discuss with my non-MU friends.

Really? Getting to a sweet sixteen is more exposure? There are 16 teams every year that do it, only 6 teams win the major conference tournaments. I would like to WIN something, not place.

That being said, if it was an Elite Eight I would choose that.

The question was not "making a run," it was win it. You would rather place in a tournament rather than win one.

Definitely sweet 16. I'm excited that we're playing well this week and I love having another crack at 'Ville but dancing into the 2nd weekend and having the talking heads all over the country discussing our team for 5 days does wonders for a program's visibility and success.

I can't even remember who won the Big east tournament 2 years ago. I still remember most of the NCAA tournament from 2 years ago. Sweet 16 by far, In my opinion

For the exposure argument, I can see it both ways. But the fact that EVERY college basketball fan pays attention to the NCAA Tourney (not necessarily the case for BET) and most general sports fans fill out a bracket and follow their picks leads me to believe a Sweet Sixteen run brings more exposure.

the "talking heads" wouldn't be talking about Marquette a TON after winning the BEast tourney? especially from an 11 seed? I feel like I still hear about that run Syracuse made a few years ago

I don't care what the rest of the country thinks or exposure or media attention.  I want to WIN something other than some in-season tournament.

So I'd take the Big East Tournament.

The best thing about the sweet 16 is those extra 4-5 days of excitement/anticipation, so I don't begrudge anyone who would rather have that.  I don't understand why people would figure national attention into the equation.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I'm guessing the team that wins the Big East Tourny makes it to the sweet sixteen most of the time.

Since the Big East went to 16 teams

2010: West Virginia: Final Four (Lost to Duke)
2009: Louisville: Elite 8 (Lost to Michigan State)
2008: Pitt: Second Round (Lost to Michigan State)
2007: Georgetown: Final Four (Lost to Ohio State)
2006: Syracuse: First round (Lost to Texas A&M)

I'd rather the Big East tourney. Give me a chance to watch us raise a banner next season. Outside of the Final Four, I'll take the Big East tourney or regular season over any NCAA accomplishment.
