how many times these kids pass up an open three.  Buycks and DJO are good three point shooters.  Why are they passing up SO MANY FRIGGIN OPEN THREES?

Wade for President

Couldn't agree more.  I hope we don't pump fake our way out of the tournament.

muarmy81

Terrible game.  Terrible effort by everyone except Butler.

Couldn't agree more.  Why do they pass up so many open looks?

Sloppy with the ball...UGH

didn't take care of the ball in the first half  9 turnovers  and that ridiculous rotation around the perimeter wasting time.
other teams set up shots with double picks to free up a hot hand but NOOOOOO! we don't try to free anybody up until time has run out and somebody has to try a desperation shot

When you shoot 3 for 15 from three point land, no one wants it.

Why other schools did not zone us in some other games is amazing.  MU passes around for 25 seconds, then freaks out.

Been saying that all year

lab_warrior

Yeah, it's hard to shoot when you've been throwing up bricks all night.

WellsstreetWanderer

How about diagramming a play for Jae once in awhile

77fan88warrior

I thought they were actually trying to work to get  solid shots and Cinc. got some lucky rebounds off bad outside shots in 2nd half. I wish we would have fouled their big men unless they are really good FT shooters.

ErickJD08

when you're down by 5 with a minute left, you have to throw away the past and just shoot the thing.

obviously dribbling around the perimeter until time runs out didin't work, No sense of urgency and it was very frustrating

Agreed - DJO with the shot fake when he should be launching.  +buycks.  Even Butler.  frustrating.

We are a team built on running and getting out in transition.  In games like this dominated by half court offense, defense, and low scoring (only 60 points, really?) we have a really tough time and God it is so damn boring and awful to watch.  Cincinnati dictated the flow of the game.

Very true... But we are also really good at driving and making defenses collapse.  What's the point of collapsing a defense and kicking out for three when it's followed by a pump and running into a lane filled with 8 guys?

That's how UConn attaked them and they killed them with open 3s.  Terrible gameplan tonight

How do you explain MU's relative domination of the vaunted Syracuse zone?  Cincy is Number 1 defensive team in the Big East.  The zone caused some problems, yes, but turnovers and passed up shots hurt more than anything.

I might be the only person to think this, but if you shoot over 33% from three (which is about the equivalent 50% from 2) you should be shooting open threes.  And that criteria fits DJO, Buycks, Crowder, and Butler.  I am not saying shoot every open three but more than what we are doin.

I found myself wondering about this too.  I think that it shows how drilled they are to try for a great shot, pass it enough to get at least one paint touch, etc.  The trying to get a touch in the paint was killing them when Otule was in there because he clearly didn't know where to pass the ball out to under Cincinnati's pressure.  I've never seen a team defend the pass OUT of the post like that before.

At the end of the game, I thought that the team wasn't adjusting to the need to get a shot off earlier to conserve time.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Why agree that last night we passed on some open three opportunities, remember this team shoots better than 50% from two, plus we get fouled more when we shoot from two (at FT 69% that is way better than a three).  Also, threes are the most likely shot to give up a transition basket, and our transition defense is average at best.

We need a hell of a lot more than that, but it is a start:
How about a quality big; how about a real PF; how about some decent game plans and in-game adjustments; how about scheduling more pre season competition than cupcake city to prepare for conference play; etc.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

How do you explain Buycks pump faking an open three to take two dribbles and shoot a drifting 17 footer?  I would think most basketball minds would take an open three over a moving 17 footer.
