Vander was downright Gasserian tonight!  (Sorry. Couldn't resist  ;))

VB played an excellent game. He played with confidence and made things happen. I have to believe that he had a long convo with Buzz and/or the assistants and/or his teammates and they let him know that they still have confidence in him and expect him to be a major contributor. When he knocked down that jumper, you could see him become more relaxed. It was like the weight was gone. His 3-point attempt wasn't real pretty because he didn't keep his shoulders square - it was almost like he twisted his body. He's clearly been working on it and, even though he missed, I liked the way he caught it and shot it with no hesitation. He's going to be a dangerous player for MU.

+1.  He's simply got to take open 3's like that.  I was so happy when he rose up and shot that, even though came off the front of the rim.  I just love watching him play isolated defense too, he can put pressure on the ball, but he always seems to stay in front of his man.

Vander played very good.  Looked much more confident.  Heard Vander say in the interview with Homer that he realizes that as freshman he's not the "go to" guy on the team.  I think Vander can play much better if he thinks of himself as a "go to" guy.  Marquette needs a lot of "go to" guys and Vander has the talent to be a successful "go to" guy.  Vander, play hard, play to win.  You can beat any player guarding you.  Practice your shot.  You can be great!

Vander can wear Horace Grant goggles if he wants.  Whatever makes him play better.  I keep forgetting how young he is, his expectations were so high coming in.  He does need to work on limiting his turnovers and being smarter with the ball.  I don't know he will be the superstar everyone thought he would be.  I keep looking for flashes of brilliance but haven't seen anything yet.  That being said, he does a hell of a lot better than I could do.

He may not have had a great line, but he was aggressive early on in the game that kept us in it and helped in the run. He also hit some free throws in the second half early on when we weren't doing anything. I think with some work on his shot he will be very good, and I like that he seems to have a lot of confidence still.

Edit: TallTitan beat me to it. Please merge or delete. Thanks.

and work on finishing at the rim and under the basket
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
