Talk about it in The Badgers' Den

To say Bronson Koenig benefited from the attention of J.P. Tokoto would be an understatement.

The 6-2 sophomore point guard from La Crosse, Wisconsin was fortunate enough to play an AAU game in between two of Tokoto's games.

And fortunately for Koenig, a lot of the college coaches that were waiting around to see Tokoto again, had the chance to see Koenig put on a show.

"The coaches were sitting around waiting on JP to play again and here's this kid scoring like 15 straight points, hitting like five straight threes. The coaches from UNC and Kansas were there to see it and my phone starting ringing as soon as they were able to call," said Ritchie Davis, head coach of Wisconsin Playground Warriors.

Koenig is terrific, according to Davis, who has a lot of experience seeing the 10th grade phenom.

"He's got a swagger to him. A confidence that's easy to see," said Davis.

"He really shoots it well and can handle the ball well in the open court and he has that little shimmy, so he can penetrate and go by people. I know UNC loves him. Absolutely loves him."

But do the Tar Heels continue to recruit the 2013 star when they just locked up a top 2012 point guard in Marcus Paige?

"You know, we asked about that as soon as the Paige commitment happened, and UNC is still very interested in Bronson, so nothing has changed," continued Davis.

Koenig feels that he has strengths and weaknesses to work on before he eventually makes it to the collegiate level.

He currently stands a full 6-2 and he feels his elusiveness and skill level is what has warranted him the attention of so many high major programs.

"I think I shoot it well most of the time," said Koenig. "I can get past my guy and either pull up or drop it or kick it out to someone for an open shot. I can beat everyone up the court, just push it up and creating for others."

He says that getting stronger, more explosive athletically and just general maturation are the three primary areas of focus for him to work on.

When it comes to recruiting, the sophomore guard already has a couple of big time offers in Wisconsin and Marquette.

He has heavy interest from North Carolina, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Duke, Iowa State, Washington State and Virginia.

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams has personally seen Koenig a few times over the past year and he recently had another trip to Wisconsin planned to watch him as well as 2012 WF Tokoto.

But the trip got postponed due to a death in the UNC family.

The trip is going to be rescheduled according to Koenig and there are also plans to come to UNC to take in a game, perhaps the Boston College game, which is February 19th in Chapel Hill.

"I think we might know where UNC stands with Bronson pretty soon," said Davis. "I know they love him and I wouldn't be surprised to see Carolina offer as soon as they are able."

Timing-wise, he'd be perfect. Come in right after Junior leaves, get time behind a senior in Blue and junior in Wilson. I'd be overjoyed if Buzz could bring Koenig in.

Will Buzz still be at Marquette? I read that he will either be dismissed for being inadequate or that he will leave for UT.

I'd rather keep our streak of non-traditional scholarship players at MU going.

No thank you.
