77ncaachamps

They may just help us get through this possible topsy-turvy season.

They're losing 44-72 to the powerhouse Cal State-Northridge.
SS Marquette

ChicosBailBonds

Maybe we can sweep them this year

Josey Wales

Ya, they really helped us last year too...

Hey Vikings, I like what you've done with the basement.

"Lazar Hayward. The L stands for leader, and the W stands for winner, Lazar Hayward is a winner."

They're currently on our schedule a grand total of once.  ND, Seton Hall and UCONN are the mirror games this season.

Exactly...maybe we can sweep them this year (as in not lose against them).

The cover-up is always worse (and more lame) than the original mistake.

Jay Bee

He got his main point through on the first post, despite the sweep talk... (which was 'ha ha, MU lost to DePaul last year!')

I expect that dude to be dressed in all black for the game tomorrow night, probably with a panther-mask painted on

PS - the OP put the lower score first... that still bugs me out every time I see it.

Don't take DePaul lightly. They whupped our ass last year--with Coach Buzz.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

As much as I love beating DePaul, I wish they were at least halfway decent. It'd make for a better rivalry if they could compete, and it'd be less embarrassing when games like last year's do happen. That, and them sucking might make it easier to kick the far west members of the Big East to the curb.

MU Avenue

Now we have 77ncaachamps and others here ridiculing DePaul. That's just great. Make's ya proud, no?

DePaul has a fine history as a university and as a basketball program. Recent years have not been strong for Blue Demons hoops, but, as Marquette showed last year, DePaul is hardly a team that anyone associated with Marquette should be mocking.

Let's worry about Marquette and the shooting, free throw shooting and rebounding deficiencies that have plagued our basketball team this season, costing us victories against two topnotch teams that MU could have defeated.

DePaul basketball will rise again. Let's not be remembered as the simpletons up the road who taunted DePaul basketball when it was down.

Sheriff

There is no real benefit to having DePaul on the schedule.  If you beat them it adversely impacts RPI.  A loss to them is disasterous.

Uhhh, Sheriff, you might know or want to know that DePaul is in the Big East Conference and also one of Marquette's longtime regional rivals.

Those two realities might explain why DePaul is on Marquette's schedule.

Oh, and I might urge you to consult a dictionary on the spelling of "disasterous."

The rivalry could be fantastic once again if DePaul could step it up.  The problem is that I don't see any way that will happen until they do something with their stadium situation.

I understand why DePaul is on the schedule.  Just tried to make the point that it this point in time it doesn't do MU any favors.  Get it?

Did you watch that game? I'm not sure I would say they "whupped our ass."

Yeah i guess to be more accurate, we kind of beat ourselves into the ground at that game (another gut-wrenching loss I witnessed in person).  At the risk of severe aversion, maybe we should have received an invite to the Big Televen after our 50pts game total!! ^_^

For now DePaul is a high risk loss game, but I do hope they improve w/ the new coach & hopefully become another contender in the conference, b/c it's true we do have the really rich history with them.  Unfortunately, i dont think they'll ever be quite like playing ND in some ways, but that is okay.  It was even more fun to play them when the Diener cousins were both still playing.  Really wish I had acquired one of those "Our Diener is bigger" shirts..... anyone know where Drake is now??

Drake is playing for Teramo Basket in Italy, along with Joe Crawford, formerly of Kentucky, and the guy that scored 35 in his final game for UK in a losing effort against Marquette in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. I wonder if Drake being in Italy had any impact on Travis heading to that side of the pond despite reportedly having NBA offers on the table.

Why do you assume it will rise again?  And I'm being respectfully serious.  I recall a time when Detroit, U of San Francisco, and Loyola of Chicago (Loyola is the only Division I NCAA school in Illinois that has ever won a national title), were big programs that we were rivals with.  Why should one assume that DePaul will "rise again" any more than those programs have?
Ludum habemus.
