is the achilles heel on this team. Mark Few knew it, went zone and never looked back. We just do not have a knock down shooter on this team.

Why is Jae Crowder launching threes??????

The best way to attack a zone isn't to shoot over it.  Its to attack and pass through it.  They didn't do that either.

Agreed for sure that attacking a zone is getting inside to outside movement, not standing around and throwing over it. Buzz's Achilles heel it's seemed, there were times last year I wondered why more teams didn't zone us.

As for Crowder: He shot 36% from 3pt last year at Howard, while Lazar shot 35% for us. Granted a bit different situation for Lazar but still, Crowder has a nice stroke and should get his share of 3's this year just needs to be selective.

Blue's shot looks odd. He has a strange hitch/double clutch that looks very clunky and unreliable. Hopefully the coaches can straighten him out.

Lazar was key to breaking the zone last year as he would flash to the free throw line and create space to either drive and dish, take the shot or rotate the ball.   This year seems like it is a dribble fest around the zone.   I was hoping Butler or Crowder would fill that role.  Plus, nobody is pure from the outside this year and that hurts.  I don't like seeing DB take the 3 at all.  He seems more of a slasher.   Vander had a sweet stroke in high school but that seems either gone or he is too tentative to take it.   DJO is slumping.  Who will step up from the perimeter?

Of course, the best way to beat a zone is to man up, force turnovers and move it up tempo before a team can force you in to a half court set.  I was hoping, with all the athletes, MU would keep rotating fresh bodies on the court and keep a full pressure set on...the half court offense right now is just out of sync and ineffective.

It is early in the year.   Now is the time to evaluate and correct before the Big East kicks off for real.

Agreed.  Of course if you have good shooters they likely don't go to a zone at all.

We should be zoned all year.

My biggest gripe with the "switchables" idea is that having 5 or 6 guys do the exact same thing at the expense of not having a few be able to shoot is potentially a problem.

I don't mms the switchable idea, but I think having one or two guys that can stroke it is something we miss.

agreed.  You need a viable threat from the outside which, even if not getting shots off due to a shut down defense, creates opportunities and space for everyone else.

We make a couple more shots and we win. same thing last night..

I like this team though . They'll improve
