Many people have speculated if Reggie Smith has indeed talked to Shaw about coming to MU.  It makes sense and this article indeed confirms that Reggie Smith has talked to Shaw and that other Chicago-area natives have talked to Shaw about other schools.

It also says he grew an inch to 6'9".

Ooo....I didn't know that he was Stovall's cousin.  And I think it is hard to tell what prospects will think of DePaul now that Purnell is down there.  That may be a game changer.

Hope we can get this guy, and that he grows another inch or so!
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Seems like he would be a great get.  I still could see us signing a talented player we barely knew we were even in on ...Buzz seems to love surprising us :)

I also found it interesting that coaches are telling him that they are going to use him as a three in the system.  I think Buzz's version of both forward spots would allow a big, athletic player to thrive.  If he is that type of player, I think his size suggests that he should just watch Jimmy this year and he can see a preview of how he will be used.

Add 2 inches and a player like that can thrive in Buzz's system.  Lazar ended up doing well in that position as well, so I am excited for the possibly of a player who is not undersized playing those type of spots.

I don't know about everyone else, but to me, after looking at some highlight videos, Shaw certainly does not look 6'9".  Maybe I'm crazy, and I definitely know its hard to judge height on a highlight video, but he just didn't look 6'9"

Does it really matter if he's 6-7. 6-8 or 6-9?  He can really rebound and appears to me to be a player who you can just insert into the game and play wherever you need him.

Mike Shaw is from the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's south side and if I'm not mistaken, Marquette had a couple great rebounders and players from the same area.  I know Bo Ellis went to Parker (now Robeson) High School in Englewood and I also believe Paul Carbins came from the same area (Englewood High School?).

Wow - lots of West Virginia and Huggins talk in that article - way too much!  From reading this and another article, it looks like a Huggins lean.  Hope I am wrong.  He looks like a great kid.  Would love to see him in blue and gold at MU!

HoopsMalone

It has been a while since Marquette has not had a Chicago-area player in the starting lineup and playing a key role.  DWade- Joe Chapman- Dameon Mason- Jerel McNeal- Mo Acker.  Maybe Reggie Smith and (hopefully) Shaw can come in and keep the tradition alive.

You do realize that the website that wrote the article is called "West Virginia Illustrated" and that the article is listed at the top as a "WVU Basketball Top Story". Of course they are going to show a lean towards Huggins and West Virginia. If Cracked Sidewalks or Todd Rosiak had an article on here, you would expect it to put a focus on Buzz Williams and Marquette, just as a WVU website is going to focus on their coach and team.

Anyone basing WVU as a favorite because of this or any other article written by a WVU website is probably jumping the gun a bit.

So cool to hear Paul Carbins name. That was the start of a magic time for Marquette. He graduated mid semesters, and 6'4" Pat Smith took over and I believe set the single game rebounding mark in his first game. Sorry to go off track on the topic, but it is some nice memories.

Hey guys I'm new here my first post but I've been following this site daily for about 2 years so I finally made a profile ..but enough about me I have been following the recruiting and am excited to see we are  in the mix with quick miller and shaw. Im very high on shaw. He is so skilled man he fits our fast paced guards nicely due to his mobility and skills he can make us an ELITE  big east team. Hope we land him he can take us out of the first two rounds of the ncaa finally.miller will be a great get b6 all means but I've seen him play in full games at adidas nations and he remin#s me of jamil wilson but better shooting wise nd a bit more skilled but they are strangely similar .. it won't kill us to miss miller. Even though he will probably be a top two pick in 2012. but shaw fills a great need nnnd enhances our squad he will be a prized recruit .. very excited to c how this ends up

It's always nice to have a glass half full person joining MUScoop.  I think Shaw to MU makes sense for both parties.

At least he didn't tell us he is one of Shaw's former coaches.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
