Apparently, Buzz is going to be in Chi town tonight for a home visit with Mike Shaw.  Reel him in Coach

Hoping the presence of Reggie Smith at MU, another Mac Irvin Fire player, could help us here. Shaw would be a very nice get for us, especially as Quincy Miller, awesome as he would be, is probably doubtful at best.

I hope Buzz connects with Shaw and his family.  That would be a great comfort level for Shaw.  Go Buzz and Go Marquette!

Is there any way to know how this went?

Sure, just call Buzz on his cell phone.

In a word, no.  But if he committs to MU in the near future, I would say it went well.

Am I the only that is feeling good about this one?

I actually don't feel good about this one -- or any of the other ones really.

The fact that Shaw attends a Catholic High School is the real game changer here, in my opinion.  I feel that it is between us and Notre Dame for the following reaons:

1. Most Chicago kids that commit to IL, do so very early in the process, see Tracy Abrams or Jereme Richmond.   If he wanted to go there he would have pulled the trigger already.
2. West VA is too far away, the other schools ar all close to home.
3. DePaul is DePaul.  Why would you go there if you had better offers.

I think it comes down to whether he wants to be a part of Big East contender in urban Milwaukee, or be the star player in South Bend.

I'm simply confident that Buzz will get at least 1 of these Top100 guys.....and of those, I'll put my money on the guy from Chicago versus East coast/southern guys.

I have a feeling it'll be Illinois or West Virginia. Just a hunch.

I have a friend who was close with the father of a player recruited by similar schools a few years back.  After the recruitment was over, I asked him about the in-home visits and specifically how MU's meeting went.  I was told that the family was impressed by MU and that MU was very organized, thought out, included academic, etc.  All the things you would want to hear from our school in the recruitment of a player.

Later on, I heard from another friend close with the DePaul program.  He mentioned that he was told from 'insiders' that DePaul's home visit with the same player went really, really well and that DePaul was really hoping for the commit and almost suprised that the player went to another (a third school--not MU) school instead of DePaul.

Well, I called the first friend up again and asked him to ask the family about the DePaul visit and how it went and how it compared with MU and the winning school because I was interested in hearing what the family liked and did not like.  The response from my friend was that the family thought that the DePaul in-home visit was bizarre and that they immediately crossed DePaul off the list of schools minutes after the in-home visit ended.

The point of this (too long) story?  What a coach or program thinks about an in-home visit does not matter.  Unless you get a verbal on the spot, ala Bill Self, you have no real idea of knowing what the player or family really thinks.

Same here. IMO right now Illinois seems like the leader.
