Al McGuire story on John Boy and Billy

We don't ever hear references to Al McGuire down south, but this morning on the john boy and billy show (staple of us rednecks for 30 years based out of charlotte, nc) had the founders of raycom sports on the air talking about their decades of broadcasting the acc.  Said their first telecast ever at the old predecessor of the great alaskan shootout.  They are all excited because they get billy packer and al mcguire to do the games.  They land in alaska and they all get off the plane - "except for Al McGuire.". When they go back into get him, he says, "I'm not getting off the plane unless you give me my check.". Apparently Al was the only one savvy enough to realize how shaky Raycom was as a start-up.  They finally wrote him the check, which they admitted this morning, "was a bit shaky" because there funds, but it cleared and raycom was born.

You've got to wonder what McGuire would have done if they left him there.  In his younger days, he almost surely would have refused to leave his heated hotel room until they produced the check.
