Maybe, but he's arguably the best coach DePaul has had in 2 decades.  He's taken three different schools (Old Dominion, Dayton, Clemson) to the NCAA tournament and has gone to the dance the last three years.  Will get his 400th win this year.

I'd go easy on the praise as he's yet to even coach a game at DePaul. I'll reserve judgement until 2015.

GGGG

Lennys, I think the point is that Purnell might not be the best coach of all time, but the fact that he was willing to leave the ACC to come to that train wreck of a program means that they did pretty well.

Furthermore, the bar is pretty low in the post-Ray Meyer era.  He wont have to do much to be considered the best coach since Ray.

I'm in total agreement with you. My post was tongue-in-cheeck.

Hey Lenny,
Five complete seasons from now would be 2016 ;)

Of course, that's how it should be....just as no one should bury the guy before he's coached one game at DePaul either...ahem.

Wow, DePaul conversation says Buzz is making a strong late bid for 2011 Mike Shaw.  Yet, I see nothing here.  What gives?

Shaw has been discussed quite a bit on the scout board.  Will be tough to get him away from Illinois IMO as they have locked down almost every in-state recruit they have targeted since Howard has been on board.  llinois wasn't giving him a lot of love a year or two ago, but seem to be all over him now.  MU has been on him pretty hard since Buzz took over.  I remember when Reggie Smith signed coach Benford said how talented Reggie's AAU teammates were and how interested MU was in them.  Will be interesting to see where Shaw ends up.  Honestly I thought he was going to end up at MSU until they filled up, now I think we have a very legit shot at him.

I don't think Shaw has any issues.  If memory serves, some people had outrageous expectations for him early on in his career due to his talents, but he was deemed "passive" by a few, and a lot of less than glowing articles were written about him over his soph/jr. year.

Over the summer he has received praise for his team first approach and rebounding, and his skillset would fit beautifully on our team.  I will be pumped if he comes to MU.  Doesn't try to take over games but is doing the dirty work and is talented as hell.  Bullseye brothers have done a fantastic job following his career and recruitment, and I think I remember them mentioning to his detractors something along the lines of..."stop trying judge him as the greatest ever, just let him be Mike Shaw...who is really good"
