I can't believe all the college football hate.  It's the best sport going in the US.

That'd be the NFL, where they've weeded out the untalented hacks.

I can't believe all the college football hate.  It's the best sport going in the US.  It's fans are much more passionate than college basketball fans and the gluttony of games on a college football Saturday guarantees that you'll have several thrillers.  Add in the fact that one loss essentially ruins your team's chance at a national title and every week is an absolute nailbiter.

As much as I love college hoops, you can't top the atmosphere of the big time college football game and I've been to the Final Four, multiple tournament sites, Rupp, Freedom Hall, Allen Fieldhouse, the Kohl Hole and many other venues.

I've been to football Saturdays on a B-10 campus, I've been to a football Saturday at ND.   If I never go to another one, I won't be missing anything.   Different strokes for different folks.    I can watch a conference tournament basketball game with two schools that I know no one on and enjoy the game and pick up on some perfect nuance that keeps me watching.   And I would rather do that than watch two football teams battle it out for 3rd in the SEC East or 4th in the B10.

Might have something to do with the blind eye turned to corrupt programs,

Two words: John Calipari

So, by that logic, you like the NBA over NCAA hoops, correct?

That works, you sound like a basketball guy over a football guy.

It's not like a perennial college football powerhouse has had 24 arrests of players since 2005...

Wait, my bad.

Plenty of bad eggs in college basketball as well.  Look at UConn.  Football has 10x more players so the raw numbers are going to be much higher than basketball.  I do admit, football probably still has a higher % that get in trouble.

I can't believe all the college football hate.  It's the best dumbest sport going in the US.  It's fans are much more passionate than drunk, obnoxcous, soon-to-be state school dropouts who tolerate corruption compared to college basketball fans and the gluttony of games on a college football Saturday guarantees that you'll have several thrillers you should be doing something productive before Sunday's NFL games start.  Add in the fact that one loss not being in one of four conferences, not having the media, coaches, other random "experts" and/or a computer liking you, or not being one of four undefeated teams selected for a two-team playoff essentially ruins your team's chance at a national title and every week is an absolute nailbiter lame, glorified exhibition.

As much as I love college hoops, you can't top the atmosphere of the pointlessness of most big time college football games and I've been to Camp Randall and felt absolutely disgusting, like I hadn't showered in weeks. been to the Final Four, multiple tournament sites, Rupp, Freedom Hall, Allen Fieldhouse, the Kohl Hole and many other venues.

I can't figure out how to format Chapman's response with my response in it, so here it goes

Drunk & obnoxious - have you been to a recent MU-UW game at the Bradley Center?  Our students chant "Eff the Badgers."  I actually chuckle at that, but that fits the bill of drunk and obnoxious, plus vile.  At least they don't chant "Shoot him like a horse" like Badger fans

Tolerate corruption more than basketball fans - really?  John Calipari, Worldwide Wes, UConn, John Wooden's "friend of the program" during his dynasty.  Both sports have plenty of muck

NFL - sorry, I'm just not into watching diva WRs make the game all about them.  I can understand why people like the NFL, just not my cup of tea.

College Football Championship system - It's a mess, but that makes the regular season so much more fun.  Did you really want to watch TCU or Cincinnati play Alabama or Texas this year?

Disgusted at Camp Randall - hey, I can't stand the place either, waaaaay overrated.  They aren't football fans, they are drinking fans.  None of the students show up until half time and none of students know anything about football.  No college football games I've been to can top the white trash factor at the NFL games I've been to.  Anyone who has been to a Packer game can attest to the horror of sitting by a group of drunk middle age women with huge bangs.  [shudder]

I've been to dozens of games at Camp Randall (none in the student section) and a handful of games at Lambeau.  CR by far has a better atmosphere.  Lambeau is a beautiful stadium...not a bad seat in the house.  But the atmosphere seems very contrived...too polished.

And to me, that is the problem with the NFL.  There doesn't seem to be the "natural excitement" that you get with the college game.  I went to a Florida / Auburn game a few years ago in Auburn...probably the best atmosphere for any sporting event I have ever attended.

I would have loved to be at the Florida/Auburn game with you..., I believe it was outstanding.  Would have to be kidnapped to go to another game at Camp Randall- especially in the visiting school's section. (where are those cops when you need them?)  Greatest/most exciting game (college football) for me was the Northwestern/Michigan game at Evanston several years ago. (nat'l ESPN night double overtime sellout thriller)!

It was.  It was a night game so we headed to the stadium mid-afternoon.  Had a few beers...some real good bbq...and the game was so damn loud.

MU B2002

I have been to a handful of games at Neyland Stadium (UT) and the atmosphere is always been incredible no matter the opponent/weather/etc.

I hate College football. If I ran the world it would never have existed and basketball would be the number 1 money sport. but that aside this poll actually made me think. Perhaps all us football haters and fans of non football BE teams need to start being part of the solution to make BE football more appealing. How? by watching games. Heck we don't even have to really watch it just put it on your TV so that the BE gets more viewership. Having more people watch BE football can only help the conference.

jficke13

that only works if you're tv set is actually being tracked for ratings purposes.
