Two UConn staff members have parted ways as the NCAA is set to release a notice of allegations on Friday morning stemming from a report more than a year ago which documented numerous rules violations.

Assistant Pat Sellars and director of basketball operations Beau Archibald, according to multiple sources, are both out of jobs.

Sources have also told FOXSports.com that UConn is slated to have a news conference on Friday at 10 a.m. to discuss the notice of allegations.

Yahoo! Sports reported in March of 2009 that there were violations in the recruitment of former UConn player Nate Miles and the involvement of former Huskies manager Josh Nochimson – now an agent.

The report stated that phone record showed hundreds of calls and text messages between Nochimson and UConn staff members.

Growing up in Connecticut and always being a UConn fan, it was fun to see Calhoun build the program up, recruiting players who would work hard and desire to win, since UConn wasn't exactly a powerhouse back in the day. Now, Calhoun recruits guys who just want to go to the NBA, don't care about winning at the college level, dare I say, thugs. These guys just don't have the desire to work hard in college, and Calhoun is too old to motivate them. I hate to say it, because he has done so much for the University, but it is time for him to step down, not get a new contract.

Is it me or have there been more investigations and allegations in recent years?  I seem to recall the NCAA increasing their investigation budget (i.e. personnel) some years back.

The notice contains eight allegations of violation of NCAA Bylaws including:
-Impermissible phone calls and text messages to prospective student-athletes;
-Impermissible benefits provided to a prospective student-athlete by a representative of the   institution's athletic interests;
-Impermissible benefit to a prospective student-athlete by a member of the basketball staff;
-Allegations against two (2) members of the basketball staff for providing false and misleading information to the NCAA Enforcement staff and to the institution;
-Providing impermissible complimentary admissions or discretionary tickets;
-A failure by the head men's basketball coach to promote an atmosphere of compliance in the men's basketball program and a failure to adequately monitor the program to ensure compliance with NCAA legislation regarding telephone calls, text messages and benefits provided by a representative of the institution's   athletic interests;
-A failure by the institution to adequately monitor the conduct and administration of the men's basketball staff in the areas of: telephone records, representatives of the institution's athletics interests; and, complimentary admissions or discretionary tickets.

The "failure to monitor" and "failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance" seems similar to what Michigan got charged with earlier this week.  My bet is UConn firing the assistants is a good start in the eyes of the NCAA, but I'd be surprised if they get more than 3 years of probation w/a lost scholarship for a year or two.

Call me cynical, I strongly suspect that the new contract was done with the knowledge that these sanctions were coming.  Now if the fallout is so bad from the investigation that Calhoun has to leave, he gets rewarded by having his contract settled.  I'd love to see the contract's provisions for what happens if it is cut short due to NCAA sanctions or Calhoun's health.  I'm guessing that they are very lenient towards Calhoun.  As a public university, UConn can't give Calhoun a nice sendoff bonus, but if they know he's on his way out, and the contract is written the right way....

I would suspect so Calhoun doesn't go scorched Earth on the program as he's leaving and to ensure potential incoming coaches know UConn takes care of its own.
