Yahoo lists us in his top 3.

I know he was brought up before, but anyone know anything more about him?  I remember Alabama was excited that he only visited them, but who knows if that is still the case.

dwaderoy2004

He hasn't visited us yet.  He certainly seems like an Alabama lean at this point.  This would be a huge get for Buzz though if he could pull it off.

This would be the effing tits.

With Ricardo Ratliffe committing to Mizzou the other day, I think it is even more likely now that Cothron goes to Bama.

Cothron wants PT, and now with Ratliffe out of the equation, there will be plenty for him at Bama.

I don't know much about the Bama roster but I think you'd be hard pressed to find more available frontcourt playing time on a top team in a big time conference than Marquette.

Cothron is from Alabama.

There could be plenty of time for him at MU too.

I like his strength of a perimeter shot listed by Scout:  http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=9&c=2&cid=838210&nid=3867285&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2f%2fscouthoops.scout.com%2fa.z%3fs%3d75%26p%3d9%26c%3d2%26cid%3d838210%26nid%3d3867285

A big man who can shoot is the perfect person to space the floor and receive a ton of open looks when our swing men and guards penetrate.  A back to the basket guy would be nice, but this is the perfect skill set.  He would be literally perfect to go with what we have.  He could come up to Milwaukee and fall backwards into open looks.  Look at the open shots Fulce and Hayward got this year, and that was with less talent penetrating than we will have in the next 4 years.

I did see that article about Alabama: http://blog.al.com/bamabeat/2010/04/tide_closing_in_on_coveted_hoo.html

It sounds like he is just saying nice things about the school closest to him.  It sounds like a little bit of an exaggerationg to assume that he is coming just because he visited the school that is literally next door (stop traffic) to him and compliment it.  Maybe he like Alabama, but if he watched what Hayward was able to do out of position, he should be able to imagine himself in a system that promotes his talents.

GOMU1104

Obviously talented. I wouldnt be heart broken if he goes to Bama though.

brewcity77

Seems like he'd be a nice addition. We could clearly use the size. Saw an article from an NC State side saying that losing him might not be a bad thing for them in the long run because of poor shot selection, but that could just be sour grapes after losing their #2 rated recruit, and the only real big man in their class.

Luke,

If you're reading this thread, you should know that "effing tits" is a good thing.

Oh, and when HoopsMalone says:
"A big man who can shoot is the perfect person to space the floor and receive a ton of open looks when our swing men and guards penetrate."

You shouldn't take that to mean that Marquette runs the "swing" offense.  That would be the other Wisconsin BCS conference school.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Haha.  I meant Jamial Jones, Jimmy Butler, EWill, Vander Blue, and DJO taking it to the hoop and creating open space.  A big man who can swish a few would be perfect.

Why? What big man is better than him and has MU in his top 3? Maybe Dieng, but thats all.

If Buzz gets this kid I would be ecstatic

dwaderoy2004

yeah, i might poop my pants a little if he committed.  this kid averaged 30 ppg his senior year, can play with his back to the basket and is physically ready to step in immediately.  He's pretty much a concensus top 50 player and top 10 PF in the class.

you mean like Jeronne Maymon???

What are you talking about? Maymon was a 2...

When Cothron decomitted, Dave Telep had this to say:

"When a guy reclasses, transfers, commits, waivers, doesn't sign, says he's committed, then de-commits. Well, you get the point."

I believe he is at his 4th high school in 4 years. He almost transfered to his 5th in late summer 2009, but ended up staying where he was at.

There are questions about his attitude, work ethic and the people around him.

When there are rumors about a kid with character issues, they generally come to fruition. Lets just look at MU over the past couple of years...

Mbakwe - Not Buzz's guy, but still didnt work out.
Maymon - Maybe not his fault, but there were questions going in and look what happened.
M. Clark - Nobody could've predicted what happened, but people knew that he had a reputation.

Again, Cothron is talented, no doubt...and I am not saying that we should only recruit choir boys, but red flags are red flags...If Buzz is convinced he is the guy he wants and he commits (and signs) to MU, I will cheer for him like I do every other MU player. However, I'm not just going to ignore what is being said about him, and ignore the fact that this could turn out to be a bad thing.

Yes like him. Lets just stop recruiting guys ranked like Maymon, just so it never happens again.

This guy probably has two inches on Maymon (height, that is).  Many here were going Pavlov's dogs type of salivating over Tarik Black, Pinkston, Coleman, etc. This guy I believe (correct me if Im wrong) is ranked higher than all these guys in both Rivals and ESPN's rankings.

I know he likes to play away from the basket, but who gives a crap. If Buzz can land a kid like this, he can throw a big stiff down low and MU would still be a Top 25 team (maybe in 2 seasons not necessarily right away). Imagine if Otule or Mbao (if available) are slightly better than "big stiff"...

Go get him Buzz

my point was that of GOMU1104.
