The only time a list like this means anything is when all the coaches on it are retired and you can compare apples to apples. Lebron will no doubt go down as the #1 or #2 player in the history of the game but I don't know if he's currently listed in the NBA's top 50 of all time. The question we should be asking ourselves is who on that list would we trade Buzz for TODAY. My answer would be precious few. Guys like Crean and Purnell aren't even in the same ball park.

He didn't just "back Pierre Pierce."  He got two members of Athletes in Action that he knew to approach the victim and talk with her about resolving the case.  (IOW, get the police to plea bargain it out.)  Steve Alford is a f*cking slimeball.

I would rather have Huggins as my coach 100 times over rather than Alford.  At least with Huggins, you know what you are going to get...and I think he has been unfairly criticized by many due to his "I don't give a crap what you think" personality.  At least he keeps it real.

I hope I don't end up blowing up this thread, but I would take Huggins over a lot of coaches, including Crean.  (See the "At least he keeps it real." quote above)  Any animosity I feel toward the man is centered around how regularly he kicked our ass prior to the year we finally beat his butt twice. (2002, 2003?)  Given a variety of choices, I guess I would prefer he not coach at Marquette, due to the outside and academic problems his players were prone to, at least during his Cincinnati tenure.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I'd take Alford over Huggins.....Huggins is a fun guy at Turners and will have a beer with the peeps, but the slime factor is much greater than Alford over the years.

Have a beer with the peeps...Huggy's hauling a whiskey barrel under that warmup shirt he wears.

He is a great coach, one of the best.  Never a good fit (as you point out) for MU.

What is your source that Alford did that? First I have heard of that.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Here's a link to a Chicago Sun Times story.  It has the relevant paragraph, but you can login to read more if you want.

I haven't looked a the list yet.  I'll guess, based on the poster, that II,II is on it.  Now I'll go look.

OF COURSE, he's on it!  Crimson and CREAN!   Crimson and CREAN!

I wonder how many shades of difference there are between Crean and cream.

Is there any active Final Four coach that isn't on the list other than Brad Stevens?  Probably not, but I'd wager that's probably the case.  You get to the Final Four, it earns some cred whether it's deserved or not.  If Bo Ryan ever gets there, he'll vault to a top 5 coach.

A point well made.  (The final four coaches thing.)

I wonder if I'm spending too much time on this board.  As I reflect on my post, its clear to me that I have been infected with the Anti-Crean virus.  It feels good tho....

It's probably because I never had a good cry over Tommy moving on.  I probably needed to, to provide a sense of closure.

BTW, Chics, (Chicos seems too formal now that I've bared my soul to you), I'm still looking for the Mbao to Ind. thing.  I remembered it from last year, but haven't found my source yet.  My recollection is that Coach Crean came in very late and attempted to snipe him away with the Indiana name.

Let me know if you find it, you could be right but I don't recall seeing it.  The more I think about Mbao,  makes you wonder if Buzz went after him with the hope of actually landing Kanter.  Mr. Kanter committed today to Kentucky and also played at Stoneridge Prep.  Kanter is the real deal and also a foreign player.
