I suddenly got the same block today at work. Something about filtering "malicious content". Bizarre.

Gentlemen, I believe that your answer lies in this thread from yesterday...

** MU Scoop - Technical Difficulties **  « 1 2  All »
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Or MuScoop is being filtered with all the other porn sites being hit at work.

Sounds like it's related to the malware problem from yesterday.  Try clearing your cache.

rocky_warrior

It is related to yesterdays attack on our site.  We've cleaned everything up, but in that few hours that we were compromised, websense added us to their "Malicious sites" list.  We're working on it, and I'd expect it to be resolved by Monday, if not earlier.  See here...

This should be taken care of as of last night.  If your work is still blocking MUScoop I'd wait a little while.  Most companies automatically update their blocked-sites list on a schedule (once a day for us).  If it's not fixed as of tomorrow morning I'd suggest sending your IT guy a note suggesting that he download the newest Websense database update... or quit.  Whichever.

To show you just how little i know about anything computer related, I have a question:

Was anyone's computer negatively effected by the problem yesterday if they went to the Scoop while it was bugged (or whatever is the appropriate term for when it was all screwed up) ??

I don't know anything about anything and am curious if what happened yesterday could/would cause computers to go on the fritz down the road.

If you, personally, were affected this is what would have happened:

1.  You go to muscoop
2.  While browsing around, instead of seeing muscoop you get an official looking screen saying that you may have a virus and would you like to clean it up?
3.  You click that screen because of course you want to not have viruses
4.  A malicious bit of software is installed on your computer.  It sends itself all over your home or work network and starts sending spam.

If someone were affected they probably wouldn't notice unless a real virus-scan picked up the malicious program.  Their computer would work perfectly fine, all the while working behind the scenes to send spam to god knows where.

We did have at least one user who's computer was affected by the "malware".

If you already have have a quality antivirus program, if should have stopped the malware from ever getting onto your computer.

If you have any doubt, AVG is a great free anti-virus program, and will take care of the problem.  Download here:

Also, while I've never used it, a few people recommended malwarebytes...
