Before you read the article, Note the picture. It starts off as a quality break down of why Bo Ryan hasn't taken UW to an elite level, but then it turns into a bunch of homer BS.  Oates must have been drunk to suggest Ryan as Coach of the Year, when he wasn't the best coach in the state.

For the first time, a significant portion of the fan base seems to be wondering if his methods are working as well as they once did.

Indeed, the loss revealed UW's crying need for mid-range players who are athletic enough to attack the basket and defend taller wings. When Ryan looked down his bench, he didn't see a lot of answers and that's not good. Instead of giving scholarships to big men who can't shoot from long range — and therefore can't get playing time — UW would benefit from recruiting a few more athletes.

Actually, there isn't much homer BS at all in the article.  It is a pretty balanced view of what he has accomplished and what his shortcomings are.  Oates mentioned the need to recruit better and the need to be more flexible.  For example:  "Ryan probably won't pay much attention to that, but he should at least be thinking about making changes in the way UW operates. Not wholesale changes, mind you, because the program is and will continue to be very strong. Just some tweaks in the way UW plays and recruits."

And Oates never suggested that he should be coach of the year.  He said: "Many thought Ryan should have been coach of the year."  That is a statement of fact.

And I don't even like Tom Oates...
