Wow, that Farouk kid was deadly at the end.  Big set of balls to take that three.  A dagger to Kansas's heart.      No. Iowa beating Kansas, who would ever think.

No. Iowa well coached and they shoot lights out.  Can't imagine whats going through Kansas fanbase right now.

Oh well, my brackets just got demolished, money is wasted, now I can root for the small guys.

muhoops1

Tyshawn.  If you wanted to lose this early in the tournament you should have come to MU.

I loved all the kids with receding hairlines knocking down threes.  It keeps me going to the Y.

Fun watching the "smaller" (literally and figuratively) team win.

Great to see the MVC take down the Big 12.  Rock, Chalk, Bite Me!

Hope coach Hurley enjoyed watching his boy go for 0-for-6 from the floor today. Now we have to get Coach Cal's creeps out there.

Hard to believe the Sweet 16 conferences represented so far:

Missouri Valley
Horizon
WCC
Big 12 (Not Kansas)
Pac 10 (in a down year)
SEC

Be interesting to see if BYU can knock off Kansas St.

You do realize that UNI starts a 7 footer and the MVC POY 6'8" PF Adam Koch and a team where his 6'9" brother hits the floor (both from WI btw)?  Versus a team led by Sherron Collins, who Bill Self says is the best guard he has ever coached?  The same Bill Self who has coached current NBA guards.  And, who starts three guards and played 5 guards out of the 8 who hit the floor today.

AlienWarrior

exactly, if we had that 7 footer . How come UNI can get one and MU can't?

Yup, sure do.   Both teams started 3 guards by the way, and both teams have very large centers.

Do you think UNI won that game because of their bigs or because their guards outplayed KU's guards?

The game that I watched, KU's bigs did just fine and battled UNI to a draw there....all three KU bigs scored in double figures.   UNI's guards badly outplayed KU's guards.  Taylor only had 2 points, Collins only 10 on very poor shooting.

AlienWarrior

I agree UNI took it to KUs guards, but neutralizing KUs bigs was huge

We have a 7-footer.

And word has it if he just adds about 25lbs he'll be all conference.   ::)

We need a 6-8 or 6-9 POWER FORWARD!

A friend of mine who watches a ton of college bball, before the tournament called Northern Iowa the most severely underseeded team in the tournament...and New Mexico the most overseeded.

He was most certainly proven right today.

Outside of KU's national championship under Self, they have seriously underachieved in the tournament (with him as coach). Yes, MU's losses have been heartbreaking, but Kansas has lost as a 3 seed to a 14, as 4 seed to a 13 and now as a 1 seed to a 9 seed, in either the first or second round. Wow. Add in two other second round losses as a 1 seed under Roy Williams, and they look like a big let down team. Winning national championships has a way of overlooking the bad losses, but they are there, and those losses are bad.

EDITED to clarify.

The game I watched Northern Iowa's guards couldn't break the press.

How did they win, then? I thought it's a guard's game.

N. Iowa's last 4 points to keep them up prior to the Faroukhmanesh 3 were off offensive rebounds.  I've been told by people wiser than myself that offensive rebounding is unimportant because you can lose the rebounding battle and still win the game.

4everwarriors

Did the guards get the offensive rebounds? Just askin'.

Wasn't it one of the Kochs?  I think they're both forwards.
