Cubes came to play tonight.  4 for 5 on threes and 14 points.

Yep, and so did Acker. It's just too bad Butler was so bad. He looked awful. I don't know what was up with him, but he just looks slower and not as explosive under the hoop. Could be wear and tear? Playing with an undisclosed injury? Or maybe it was just Quincy Pondexter's presence. I don't freakin know. Whatever it was he got outhustled, outworked, and outjumped numerous times.

Butler played an odd game. He'd drive, get a few feet from the bucket and then wildly kick it outside. Not sure if he was worried about getting his face bloodied again or what. Certainly didn't look like the JB we'd seen most of the season.

To the original topic, kudos to Cubillan! He left it all out there, as they say. He had an excellent senior season. We definitely wouldn't be talking about a Marquette Tournament game without him.

Best of luck in the future, David! Hopefully we'll see you on ESPN Desportes down the road :)

Agreed, it was good to see cooby do well in his last game.  All the seniors knew what was on the line and they played like it!

As for Jimmy Butler, EVERYTIME he drives the hole, he is looking for a foul.  Sometimes it looks like he isn't even attempting to make the layup.  Refs are not going to give him the call when he is so out of control.

It worries me for next year...

Always kills me with a guy who is 4 for 5.  When you are hot, how is the plan not to run some plays for you, get you more attempts?

Same goes for DJO.  6 for 8.  Just doing a wonderful job driving, getting fouled.  How do you not direct the team to try that more?

StillWarriors

UW totally focused on shutting DJO down that last 8 mins or so, and that was a huge factor. He had just started getting it going again.

I've been harping on the Butler finishing thing for a while. Make the bucket first, the foul is a bonus. He often pulls away just looking for the foul. Drives me crazy as much as I like Jimmy. Frustrating.

As much as I like Jimmy, he is not built like Lazar.  I don't think he can take the abuse Lazar can.  A bulked up Jimmy would be a very dangerous player.

First, completely agree on Cubillan....we don't make the NCAA without him this year...it was great to see him revert back to his Freshman shooting form and develop into a leader...always loved watching his intensity.

As far as Butler...completely agree also....I honestly think he may have lead the country in missed layups/no-footers....yes, he got to the line a ton and converted at a good rate but he does expect contact everytime and seems to no focus on making the shot...something to work on for his senior season.    I worry without Hayward teams will be able to shut him down....hopeful Crowder can contribute right away.

NavinRJohnson

There was some talk about him hanging around the program as an assistant coach or something next year. I think that would probably be a pretty good thing.
