The role of statistics

Hello Board,

Not a regular poster and an MU grad long before many of you were born.

With this team the old adage, "it is not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog" holds true.

I see Buzz is a student of stats, counting paint touches and the correlated free throws as a result and the number of passes before a 3-ball is taken increasing the likelihood of a bucket...

I do stats all day and the power of statistics is amazing.  I plugged in some variables between Villanova and Marquette into my trusty SPSS and the statistical likelihood of a MU win today was enormous. While every game is played for sure, the likelihood that MU would lose three times to Villanova, given the factors, was unreal.

Now the odds are with Georgetown since the likelihood of us beating GT twice in the same years is low, but the power of stats is enormous.  

Enjoy the ride folks.  I attended MU when Al won and I had given up when we got that 7th loss in the season.  Did not think we would even get the bid (smaller field then)... I have been kicking myself since.
