Not sure of his height, but yes, a tall graduate assistant...Buzz's former player at UNO, Jamie McNeilly.

I believe you're thinking of the wrong guy, Jamie McNeilly isn't that tall.

The tall guy that's been seen around a lot is Asrangue Souleymane.  He played for Monarch in JUCO, and was on UNO during Buzz's year.  Interestingly, he was originally supposed to go to Colorado State under Layer after leaving the JUCO, but didn't qualify.

Do you know everything about every single DI recruit in the past 10 years? Love it

MUTV needs to get BMA and IWB as regular guests.  I would watch it every week.

Lennys Tap

BMA, can you please tell us what you know about Davante Gardner? Thanks in advance.

Dawson Rental

OMG!  I hope its Davante Gardner!  ESPN has him rated as the 108th best player in the country.

Oh wait, he's rated the 108th best center in the country.

Oh wait again, he might be rated the 108th best center in the state of Virginia...

If it is Davante Gardner, I hope Buzz knows what' he's doing.  I'd love it if he was the round mound of rebound.
Not so sure if he's just the round mound period.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Dawson Rental

OK, I did a little more checking and it seems that while ESPN is not too impressed, others are.  Here are comments one analyst made after he appeared at the NBA Players Assoc camp this past summer:

"Davante Gardner, C, Petersburg Elite: We've liked him both days. He's in the neighborhood of 300 pounds. Our rule is if you're that big, know how to use your body and he's quite sure what to do. Against Carolina Flight he hung 21 points and fought the entire time. He's got good hands and is quick to his scoring move. Think Dexter Pittman in terms of overall size and what could happen if his conditioning improves."

Then a report of a January 21, 2010 game said this:

" King's Fork 86,     Nansemond River 68

Davante Gardner turned in another torrid showing for the host No. 1 Bulldogs (15-2, 13-0), producing 25 points, 20 rebounds and three blocked shots."

New Era Warriors

I know what Liam and McNeilly look like and it wasn't them. It could have been Gardner or someone else. I was just throwing out what I observed today.

goodgreatgrand

Scout ranks him a 3 star and doesnt list any schools that have offered a scholly.

I find it very strange that a kid that is 6'9", 305 lbs hasnt signed anywhere yet. The only guys that are still unsigned and in the 2010 class are top-flight players (for the most part).

At his height and weight, when should he schedule his future knee surgeries? I recall Arinze Onuaku (at 280 lbs) having two surgeries on each knee over the past two years. The poor kid has arthritis is both knees and he's not even 23 years old.

NCMUFan

Guess it comes down to whether you trust in Buzz's judgement for recruiting or not.  Appears major conditioning is going to be part of his regiment if he comes to Marquette.  In "Buzz I Trust."

GGGG

So who is leaving (or not coming at all) if we sign this kid?  I mean, we are pretty sure it'll be Yous right?

At this time of year, there are very few (if any) D1 ready big men.

I realize that your question is a valid one, but for some reason pontificating on which of our current players may or may not be returning next year always makes me feel like a jerk.  I suppose it's along the lines of "These poor kids have enough stress and have given so much to MU.  We shouldn't pile on with identifying which ones should or should not return next year."

Anyway, carry on :(

Exact to the point, thats why we take a pass on this guy.

There's like 5 big guys each year that aren't projects....by your theory they'd never land one.

I'd love to have this guy, ESPN last reported on him more then a year ago.  Isn't a 6'9 260 banger what everyone has been whining about?  Then one is interested and you complain about him not being ranked on the mother ship.  I think we can all agree that Buzz knows what he's doing.

No, the Steelers' quarterback is a jerk. This speculation is prefectly fine and fitting.

+1 -Seems everyone has been wanting a "big," and now we have this kid on campus a 3 star prospect..and we have a complaint.  I'm fairly excited about this prospect - you can coach/teach conditioning, but you cannot teach size, nor physicallness, and according to the NBA evaluation, this kid has both the size and mentality.  In Buzz I trust..highly doubt this kid would be the project level of an Mbao

Thomas' Danish Delight

If you guys are concerned with his weight, just look at what our staff did with Junior.  Even after suffering a busted Achille's, he still looks much slimmer than he did in high school.

Dawson Rental

Getting 20 rebounds in a HS game is always impressive...

Unless you're playing the Little Sisters of the Poor....

and then, only if Sally Field (the Flying Nun) doesn't suit up.

If she does, you'll be in for a long night of getting posterized.

Anyone hear anything regarding Devante Gardner visit this weekend?

@ 0:38, he blocks the Utah Jazz's Paul Millsap. Lol
He was a teammate of McNeilly's at UNO.

Isn't that essentially what McMorrow was?  Its such a shame we never got to see what he could do
