Hard to believe we have a two-game lead and the tie-breaker over Georgetown. The reason: consistency. We have won the games we're supposed to (alas, except one) while dem Hoyas fell to far lesser opponents like Rutgers, USF, and Notre Dame. Look at the schedule, it's actually astounding. Every team we have beaten is below us in the BEast. I love that consistency and it should be rewarded. So we didn't pick up a win against a Cuse, Nova, or WVU. Big deal. We took care of business elsewhere so we wouldn't need a marquee win like that-see Louisville, without that Cuse win they would be screwed thanks to bad losses in non-conference and against SJU and Seton Hall.

Basically, what I'm saying is once you look behind the bright and shiny wins by other teams, you see an MU team that's been there all along. I respect that and the committee will, too. Hopefully, this was somewhat coherent. Going to bed now.

I agree for the most part, but not entirely true. Depaul anyone?

That trend will continue tonight.  If we win, we will have beaten another team below us in the standings.  If we lose, we will have lost to another team above us in the standings.

The BE sched has a way of sorting things out and that separation makes it clear to the committee who should be invited to dance.  As for G'town, cannot understand how they have such a high  predicted ncaa seed compared to teams above them in the BE standings.

#1 SOS and have beaten 5 top 25 RPI teams.

Overall agree, but the NC State loss looks really bad out of conference by us, as well as the Depaul one as mentioned above.  But overall, yes we've been more consistent than quite a few other teams.

Good point, and not arguing your post....but I do think this reflects the flaw of the RPI system.  Pretty amazing that a team who is going to finish in a tie at best, or at worst, possibly 4 games worse than MU - could be a LOCK for the tourney, while Marquette remains a bubble team.  The SOS weight in the RPI is HUGE..and reflects MU's need to upgrade it's preseason schedule to schedule only teams consistently between 100-200 in the RPI ratings..something the A-10 schools have been very good at...we are getting KILLED in our SOS RPI due to having 6 teams with 220+ RPI's, and 2 or 3 teams in the 300s...

Not defending the weak non-conference schedule, but this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for MU. If I'm doing the scheduling, I may want to give them more guaranteed wins early to hopefully build the team's momentum come conference time. Looks like it worked. May hurt a bit in chances to make the tournement, but did anyone expect us to be where we are a year ago?

Windyplayer

I think we're beyond having a chance to be in the tournament. We're in barring a complete meltdown.
